As I said above I have the smart components sorted as per Anna's post. A smart component is an assembly of sorts. A bolt with a washer, a circlip with a groove.
Just using a single part with an associated part or feature doesn't work. Well I can't get it to work
Ok I've gone through the help files and still can't find how to make a SW fastener!
I would like to take one of these -
http://catalog.pemnet.com/item/nuts-types-h-hn-hnl/nuts-types-h-hn-hnl-metric/h-m10-zi?
and be able to 'drag n drop' it into position on an assembly, as one does with a bolt...
Thanks to all for the help.
I got the 'Smart Components' sorted.
But creating 'Fasteners', if at all possible, it seems the toolbox is needed.
Does anyone have experience with creating a 'Fastener'?
How does one define the automated mates?
Anyway, I have SW Std and so no Toolbox.
Spoken to...
Seems the toolbox is not part of our package, so non of this is possible anyway.
I hate fighting with with something only to find out you've wasted 2 hrs of your time because it was never possible :-(
This is a 2 part question.
1: Is it possible to create a smart fastener from an assembly?
I use a common config of a bolt and 2 washers in a large assembly and would like to fill the required holes with all 3 parts as 1 but still keep them individual items for the BOM.
2: Is it possible to...
This has never happened before and I can't get it to happen again,but......
I this 1 particular assembly SW keeps giving me the wrong arclength dimension.
Using a very quick and easy (for me anyway) equation that uses 2 arc length 'driven' dimensions I determine what size v-belt I need to use...
Is it possibly to add a mass/weight value to a model?
We use a lot of 3rd party products, that I download from company sites(where available), in assemblies.
Sometime I even just build a block to represent an item. The looks and materials are not important but the weight is as most times I have...
Which one????
The only one that is remotely appropriate is the cam mate

I can select the follower no problem.
Whe I select the surfaces for the cam I can selsct the straight shaft. But when trying to select the fillet and the...
Is it possible to make cam follower follow a linear, reciprocating cam? (I hope that makes sense)
I have a shaft with a taper that has a fixed distance travel forward and backwards.
I have a spring loaded blade with a follower that runs on the taper.
Is it possible to mate the 2 parts to show...
I started my apprenticeship(fitting and turning) in 1993, qualified in 1995 and did a mechanical diploma during the same time.
I was priveleged enough to be employed in an aviation manufacturing company and in my time there up until the end of 2004 I was exposed to many facets of the...
