Applying a torque about an axis to a face

I have a shaft rotating under a load and I am trying to simulate the stress that occurs in the shaft when a brake is applied through a coupler using a woodruff key. I have done it 2 ways and am seeing somewhat similar results but I don't know if the 2nd way is accurate. Left Image: I apply the...

Position Tolerance of a square feature on a disk

All excellent points, and I will answer what I can. This is a very simplified example of the actual part. We currently use a round sleeve but have had years of problems and I am now looking at a square sleeve. I have a few options, but I need to at least get this one quoted. We did have problems...

Position Tolerance of a square feature on a disk

I have a disk that is inserted in a cylinder. A square sleeve will be inserted and welded to the square bore of the disk and I am trying to center the hole on the disk. Is a position tolerance the best way to do this? I have read that you can use position with any feature, not just a circle...

Vendor creates additional drawings for approval - Standard?

On cables they would ask for tolerance changes at times. On the molded parts, material & tolerances are just missing from the block. Trailing zeros removed (metric). This company makes products extremely similar to the ones I send them, and it uses the same material. I am less opposed to...

Vendor creates additional drawings for approval - Standard?

I have been working with an injection molding company in Taiwan for several years. They are not ISO so I am curious as to the reasoning for the additional drawings they create. We send them 3D models and drawings of injection molded parts as well as 2D drawings of overmolded cables. They...

    Force from rotating cylinder

rb1957 & IRstuff: So you are suggesting it would bend slightly at the top of the tab in the direction shown in this pic attached? That direction would be insignificant to me. However, any bending/vibration in the other direction previously posted would be damaging. Balancing is not relevant to...

    Force from rotating cylinder

Yes it would be rotating on the cylinders axis. If the tab was parallel to the tangent of the circle, I could see the centrifugal force that would make it bend. But since it is in the same plane as the tab, it won't bend at all? Even at high rpm with a thin gauge steel tab? I appreciate all your...

    Force from rotating cylinder

IRStuff: Yes it will be like a fixed edge, and then a force at the other end. I don't know how to calculate the "lateral force" though based on the rotation of the drum. Hopefully the picture helps to explain...it is a very simple sketch to just get my idea...

    Force from rotating cylinder

I have a hollow cylinder rotating at about 2800rpm max. I welded the bottom of a small tab to the end of the cylinder, and want to find the force acting on the tab that would bend it away from the cylinder at those high speeds. Any thoughts?

Using the draft feature - SW 2015

    Good to know. My apologies.

Using the draft feature - SW 2015

I got it figured out but not the way I wanted to do it. I would like to set an end limit to the draft of where it would meet the face but instead I just played with the angle until it got close enough. And the angle is 77.47degrees.... This will work, but anyone have any ideas for future...

Using the draft feature - SW 2015

Hi there, I am trying to create a draft on this part. See picture below. I have used the draft feature before but I cannot figure this one out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e3c99c5e-0ffe-4e75-b30e-b1ad9aa791e1&file=DRAFTQUESTION.png

    Perpendicularity

Thanks guys. The diameter will be the datum and I will put 2 control frames on the drawing, 1 for each face. Thanks for the quick responses!

    Perpendicularity

Hi there, I have a drum that needs both faces of it perpendicular to the bore of the drum. I am wondering what the correct location of the feature control frame is so that both faces will have the tolerance. I am only assuming that putting the feature control frame pointing to one face means...
