Hello all,
need help in figuring out reinforcement approach to one of mandatory soft-story projects that i'm handling now.
So it's a 4-story building and I'm trying to reinforce one of sides with wood shearwall.
However, since I can only place shearwall one side, i.e. outside, as placing...
So, i'm making an opening in existing CMU wall.
The existing rebar size and spacing is fine when I take it as Special reinforced cmu wall, R=5.
But as far as I know, existing cmu wall has to be treated as ordinary and thus R value has to be 2.
Please let me know if I'm fine to treat the existing...
so there isn't any vibration criteria in code books,I wonder how others would approach to this problem.
I've got a dancing room which is supported by steel beams and wood I-joists.
Although all the members pass the design criteria, the vibration is now the problem after the construction...
For 2hr fire rating purposes, I have been using either pyroguard or d-blaze.
But sometimes due to the span or simply bearing, these coated sawn lumbers don't satisfy.
I have happened to hear that glulam could be used for same purpose (2hr fire rating).
Does anyone have some sort of docs that...
Based on my experience, for single story building, OMF and IMF can still work as I believe its height is less than 35'.
I would still open an option for ordinary cantilever column too.
SMF is definitely a heavy deign for a single story building.
Often, what i usually do is, place cantilever...
I previously designed IMF for 3-story house.
The lateral resisting system of the two top floors were wood shearwall and the lowest floor was IMF.
So, based on "standard quality assurance plan for steel moment frames" provided by the city,
it is given that the steel column must extend at least...
KootK,
some parts still cantilever while some don't due to the presence of opening(stair).
I was considering to span a beam halfway through so that would make it a 15' spanning one way slab
i'm designing a small house (30x40) at hill side, where i have 30' cantilevered retaining wall as a perimeter.
(basement and 2 floors above - so two bottom floors are under soil where temporary shoring is needed)
im considering to have slab on top of basement concrete wall where the rest...
