Hi all,
Sorry to late reply. Here a simply sketch attached. The blue area is pressurized. A cap (green) connects with body by thread. The pedestal is 1.5" square. This is a existent valve design. Obviously, it is not optimised design. What I need to do is calculating the Factor of Safety...
Well with your reference, I went over the O-ring bible again. Unfortunately, it seems nothing related my question. Actually, I am not concerned about the failure of leakage. I want to know the strength issue of the groove. If the groove locates too close to cylinder edge, there will be failure...
I am looking the calculation or empirical data about the minimum wall thickness of O-ring groove to backup o-ring against pressure. For example, to seal the end of pipe, an o-ring groove machined on the end face. How close the o-ring groove outside edge diameter to the outside diameter of pipe...
Hi,
As ASME B31.3-2006 para 304, the equation is given for thickness calaculation of straight pipe under internal pressure. However to be precondition, the thickness is smaller than 1/6 OD must be satisfied. What's the equation that it is thicker than 1/6 OD?
Thanks!
When I work on an report that needs to analyze a threaded part on valve, may I use 3XSm to be allowable stress intensity as ASME VIII Div2 described? The part connects with body by thread (UNF) and preloaded torque to press another component to withstand internal pressure. What I am hesitate is...
Hello,
I'm working on analysis report for PED certificate, and I got some questions as following,
1. ABSA AB520 require "Plot with element stress and compare nodal (average) stress vs. element (non-average) stress (should <5%)". Is this to check the max. stress nodal and elment or some...
reysor's question should be inline testing. My first thinking is by pressure change. However, a shutoff valve have to put downstream. The system have to bear no flow downstream sometimes when testing the valve.
I am working on verification for many our valves. For seat leakage (internal leak), as my experience, API, AWWA, FM etc. they have the standards for leak rate and test specification. But my current company product line is instrument valves with low flow (small Cv). We use HE sniffer to detect...
Hi all,
I am working on stress analysis of valve parts, then combine all results for PED, ASME certification. I ran COSMOSWORKS and got reports. One guy told me use the reports pages going for certifying. I think those pages including too many info maybe no use. Is there any expert know how to...
