    Interesting CVT transmission patent

why do you think it would be inefficient?

    Interesting CVT transmission patent

that indeed looks very similar indeed! any idea what was the problem with such transmission?

    Interesting CVT transmission patent

Hi I was online reading about CVT types and stumbled upon attached Patent application for a unique CVT idea from 1983! it looks feasible but I don't seem to find any actual application for it. This is surprising as it seems to solve common problem with current CVTs especially regarding high...

life expectency of hydraulic cylinder and piston seals

I'm not talking about any specific case right now but about my experience in general. all the factors you mentioned above show one thing, that transmissions can last longer because it's a more controlled environment where temp, pressure, actuation length can be more uniformly which allows you...

life expectency of hydraulic cylinder and piston seals

I mean like it starts to leak within two year period.I'm talking from experience with construction equipment.like excavators, wheel loaders, etc. Transmisdions on other hand may live for 10+ years without issues

life expectency of hydraulic cylinder and piston seals

I get what Brian is saying, but in many cases you open transmission after a 10 year use to find piston seals are in perfect condition! I was wondering if it has to be about transmission enviroment being more controlled than in the case of hydraulic systems and cylinders.

life expectency of hydraulic cylinder and piston seals

I'm just discussing what you pointed out as this is a discussion, I hope ou don't get upset if I don't agree with some of your points. a transmission clutch can be actuated hundreds of thousands of times so its total travel will be in the range of kilometers as well. You may be right about...

life expectency of hydraulic cylinder and piston seals

travel distance of transmission clutch pistons can be between 5 to 10 mms per stroke; so its travel during its life is far more than a dozen millimeters for sure temperature is sure a contributing factor but why are hydraulics limited to Buna-n seals? why can't they use EPDM or other seal typess?

life expectency of hydraulic cylinder and piston seals

Hi I notice that seals on hydraulic cylinder fail quite often which gives you the impression they can't live for long; however when you look at piston seals used in tranmissions or brakes you find that they can live for 30 years or more without servicing! why is that the case? it really has...

    little hydraulic cylinders

I did alot of research and it's clear I can't find a hydraulic cylinder with a breakaway force of 5 newtons. I'm going for pneumatic cylinders which easily have the rated breakaway load I need. I also ordered some bellows since they don't have seals causing friction as well. Thanks alot for...

    little hydraulic cylinders

well my required stroke is 30 mm only, I'm indeed looking for bellows as well.

    little hydraulic cylinders

You can find pneumatic cylinders operating at even 1.6 newtons, they have what they call low friction cylinders; but thing is I preferred hydraulic cylinders since liquid is not compressible. I want this cylinder to be actually moved by low force, much like what you do with a syringe but with...

    little hydraulic cylinders

Hi I was looking to get small hydraulic cylinders that can be actuated by 5 newtons of force or similar, anyone know where I can find such cylinders? Thanks

    positive engagment clutch advantages

thanks for your answers guys.you are actually right; I guess so far there is no positive engagment clutch that has ability to slip built into it.

    positive engagment clutch advantages

Why don't we see much use of positive engagment clutches in automobiles or other equipment? They can eliminate the wear issue commonly occuring with friction clutches which in my experience is behind most tranmission failures. They don't release alot of heat as well.

    angled surface to ball connection

Honeslty I can't get your answer. opposite forces are equal yes but my main question is wether weight will be divided between two planes or not. one answer I'm thinking about is that weight is acting in same direction of motion meaning there is no angle between force application and motion of...

    angled surface to ball connection

Thanks for answering me back. However, why is the force on B the full weight? lets assume that Weight A just touched body B and they are about to start moving.

    angled surface to ball connection

Hi all I'm having this confusion about a certain system where I'm not sure how it would act in either of two ways. Basically system is a weight of one Kilogram falling down and interacting with a body of neglegible weight. the two bodies connect together and start travelling down at the same...

Unique rack an pinion system with fixed and movable rack

Thanks alot jgKRI for the good explanation and drawing. I can see my mistake very clearly right now. My major mistake is I applied the moment created by force on moving rack around the pinion center; while the actual moment was created about interaction point between pinion and fixed rack.
