    Designing Raduised Steel Beams

When u say simply supported beam to determine torsional moment, r u suggesting wl^2/8 just like a straight beam? Would u use the cl to cl dimension between the columns or use the arc length of horizontal beam in the equation?

    Designing Raduised Steel Beams

What are some thoughts on designing radiused steel beams? Are there any rules of thumb that experienced engineers use? I have a condition where I have a radiused beam over the entrance to a four story bldg spanning about 20' between columns. It is about 12" eccentric from the cl of columns.

Brick Veneer on 4-story wood bldg

What are some opinions on supporting brick veneer with a wood backing? This building is around 45' tall with brick veneer. Code seems to allow brick to span from the foundation upwards of 30' before needing a shelf angle. Has anyone fastened a steel shelf angle to the exterior wall studs with...

    Brick Veneer Bearing?

Possibly could use masonry infill. However after the contractor jacks the existing masonry up above the porch roof it seems easier to shore everything up with wood rather than trying to split bricks to fit.

    Brick Veneer Bearing?

The veneer is vertically deflecting so much that it is also moving horizontally away from the house. There is about a 3/4" gap below the window above the front porch. I still think that 2x4's spaced at 8"o.c. could bridge the gap between the lower brick and upper brick.

    Brick Veneer Bearing?

I inspected a house where the brick veneer above the front porch area is bearing dircectly on the roof decking!! The builder bricked up to the ceiling of the porch, then framed the porch into the main structure of the home, then started brick again on top of the porch roof!! The home is around...

    Lateral Resisting Systems in hotels?

Fellow Engineers, I have recently started designing hotels around the country and am a bit concerned in regards to how the diaphragms are loading the shear walls. I have reviewed existing drawings on many existing hotel designs by others and am perplexed on how the lateral system is truly...
