Hi, I have a lot of node coordinates in a text file. Is it possible to read these coordinates in Patran in some way? Or do I need to specify each node manually?
Thank you, I have found equations in Roarks with rectangular plate with uniform distributed load and clamped along all edges. My deflection is larger than half the thickness so thin plate theory (as Roarks) does not apply. I need equations for large deflection theory. Any idea how to solve it?
Hi,
I have a quadratic plate where the edges are fixed. I have a distributed load of 25000 N over the entire plate which is made of aluminium. How can I calculate the deflection of the plate?
Thank you
Hello!
I wish to do a lifting analysis in Ansys workbench.
Basically it is a wagon with a train on it. I wish to analyse what happens to the model when lifting the wagon which has the weigth of the wagon+train.
What is the easiest way to analyse what will happen to the wagon when lifting it...
Hello
What would be the difference when calculating VIV (vortex induced vibration) for a pipe-in-pipe instead of a single pipe? Should one look at the two pipes separately or not?
Hello
Which DNV steel material is the best to use when doing FE analyses, is it SMYS 415 or SMYS 450? For the same strain then the stress will be higher in the pipeline and that is not good I guess? What are the advantages of 415/450? Im doing thermal expansion analyses and wondering how the...
Thanks but im not using ansys, im using Simla (FE program for subsea pipelines) :)
I have coordinates for all the nodes (Estern, Northing) but I want to know the angle of a specific node in relation to the global coordinate system.
Thanks
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum but Ill give it a try. I have my pipeline configuration and all the nodes are given in global coordinates. I want to know the angle between my global X axis and the specific node. See my link for explanation. The red dot is the searched node angle. Do...
How can I be more clear on what I really want and want to achieve? My 2 equations are as follows:
epsilon_ys = A/E * [1+3/7*(A/R)^(n-1)]
epsilon_ts = B/E * [1+3/7*(B/R)^(n-1)
I want to write my two unknowns as functions of the knowns. The unknowns are n and R. Everything else is known. I don't...
Hello, I am a new Mathcad user and I am wondering:
I have 2 equations and two unknowns. I want to keep the letters and symbols all the way in my calculations.
epsilon_ys = A/E * [1+3/7*(A/R)^(n-1)]
epsilon_ts = B/E * [1+3/7*(B/R)^(n-1)
So I want to know how the equations looks like for n and...
Hello!
I have a stinger configuration and I want to use the same stinger while I want to change the stinger radius. For example: My stinger configuration that is known has an radius of 150 m, and in addition to that I have all the roller positions relative to the hinge point. I now want to...
Hi all I really need your help. Is it completely wrong to analyze a layered composite structure with the shell181 element if I should analyze the results in the contact area? I mean I cant get the stresses in the thickness direction but since I am using Tsai-Wu equation to predict failure that...
If I have contact between two bodies ( one structure and one sphere ) and Im taking advantage of symmetry in this problem. I set a displacement on the sphere so that it pushes the structure. If I use symmetry on my problem and only model half the structure and half the sphere, will I then only...
I know that tsai-wu is not appropriate for analyzing laminates but I dont have any choice right now.
The only thing I want to check with you if it is more appropriate to check the failure between a ball and a laminate in 3d or 2d.
Thank you for your valuable answers.
One last question: If I am analyzing a contact problem in Ansys and I want to use tsai-wu on the ply level and not at the laminate level. Should I use tsai-wu 3D or 2D? I mean for contact between teo bodies it should be 3D right? But since Im only looking...
I dont know why a negative tsai-wu index would mean that something is wrong?
Tensile strength 1-diretion 800 MPa
Compressive strength 1-direction 500 MPa
Tensile strength 2-direction 20 MPa
Compressive strength 2-direction 300 MPa
Shear strength 12-direction 30 MPa
In tsai-wu, sigma1 and...
I apply a force oh 46kN acting in one direction on my geometry. The other load case is that the whole geometry is exposed to an acceleration acting on the whole geometry. So, if I apply positive values on the force and on the other load case acceleration, the strengths shall be positive aswell...
Hi all,
When calculating the tsai-wu, shall the material strengths be all positive? I mean the compressive strength, should i use the positive value when I am calculating the Tsai-Wu failure criteria.
And also, if the Tsai-Wu failure criteria is -50 for example, will it fail or will it just...
