I've been hunting for information on any standards for partially threaded fasteners. Is there a standard dictating at what fastener length does a fastener become partially threaded by default, and if so, is the length of the threaded portion part of a standard? Any insight?
I posted this question in another forum without any response:
We have an old spec for a part using a cast acrylic base material. The Acrylic grade listed is HC-218 but I cannot find any useful information in regards to the composition nor properties of this grade. Any help is welcomed!!!

Does anyone know of a cosmetic specification for part surfaces that indicates acceptable levels of defects (scratches, digs...) for non-optical parts. We have a few parts that we are looking for a uniform exterior surface finish allowing a level of imperfections. I've found a number of company...
dgallup,
How are the approvals for the BOM changes managed; is this part of your MRP system? Our system requires documentation of approvals for changes indicating that they have been reviewed and approved by engineering and quality; this takes place via electronic signatures on prints. Short...
We have a number of older assembly prints that do not list a BOM on the print (listing the BOM for ease of visibility is our current standard) but instead track the BOM in software unrelated to the CAD system. It is our understanding that if the BOM changes for an assembly, the revision of its...
The management of our company is mandating that "country of origin" get listed on the drawing for each part we purchase. I believe its their interpretation of a US trade law. Has anyone else gotten this mandate and if so, what was your method to meet the mandate?
thanks
Ron
We are looking for alternate material for an application where a glass filled PEI (ultem) is currently used. There are a few high precision features in the finished part so I am looking for a material that has good dimensional stable during and after machining (.0005 hole tolerances). Other...
sorry - I made that as clear as mud.
We have charted part drawings that will have a table of part numbers and their attributes (pn, description, material, supplier, supplier pn....). typically these are used for nuts, bolts, screws, washers, or other commodity items.
we have numerous charted drawings and on occasion a part on the drawing will go obsolete (no usage). The current system has us either removing the part from the drawing or marking a line through it in the chart.
I've not been able to locate a reference to a specific practice within the ASME...
I am looking for an alternate material for injection molding that would be resistant (long term) to battery acid leaked from alkaline cells.
The current material has the following processing properties that we'd like to stay close to:
Mold Shrinkage, flow, 3.2 mm (5) 1 - 1.2%
Melt Flow...
I'm looking for opinions on the interpretation of ASME Y14.100 6.8.1 in regards to when to change a part ID. specifically:
"when the previous version of an item is limited to use in specific articles, or models of articles, and its new
version is not so limited. A new PIN shall also be...
We are looking for a foam gasket material for a outdoor electrical enclose that is UL50E listed. Our preference is for a extruded round cord in neoprene or silicone of approx .100" diameter. Anyone have any good sources for UL50E material that is not cut from sheet? Custom extrusions would...
I'll do some digging and see if I can turn up a copy - thanks.
We test head strength during design but it would be good to have a reference to get in the ballpark on paper prior to having to attain parts and begin analysis.
Kenat nailed it - most of the time we don't even know who purchasing is buying fasteners from (usually some distributor that is getting stuff made in a dirt floor shop in China). The only time our parts fly is when they are thrown, and I can safely say that our products are not used as...
I'm sure this question has been asked before but I'm unable to find a thread that addresses the question.
I'm looking for a chart or tabulated form that lists the max allowable torque for various materials and drive types for screws. With some of the smaller fasteners we use in products we run...
We are looking for high dimensional stability as well as maintaining a mechanical bond to a substrate that has an extremely low CTE. The product deals with a fairly wide temperature range in its typical use and the substrate needs to remain mechanically bonded to the the overmold (in our...
We currently are using a Sabic ULTEM 2410, 40% glass material for a project but would like to find something of a similar CTE but with a lower melting temperature. Ideally something with a similar water absorption (as this part is continuously submerged in fresh and salt water) and with similar...
some are old assemblies that were created in previous versions (exhibiting the problem prior and post being saved as 2011), and some are new assemblies that were created in 2011 only a few months ago. Its very random as to what part has issue and I've not seen a correlation with features...
Yes - everything has been converted to SW 2011.
As a side note - the only way we've been able to fix the issue when it happens is to delete the part from the assembly and add it back in.
