I finally figured it out .. thanks for your help and it works -- though I still can't figure out why it (still)doesn't work the way it should.
The only way I can do it is to create a configuration manually and then inset the design table.
I was stumped on creating a configuration also...

I open up the design table ..
and if I double click on a dimension .. nothing happens.
Design table doesn't get updated!
