buck boost transformers for 240V Delta to 208V 3P?

I would likely be connecting with a closed delta primary and using 2 transformers. I am trying to arrive the the correct calculations here. Technically, amps are amps, so I would think if the transformer will handle 62A of single phase, that would be 62A using 2 of them on 3P? Now, I don't...

buck boost transformers for 240V Delta to 208V 3P?

The books seem to indicate full ampacity vs highest voltage for the kva calculation so 15kva for the values above? unless I missed step. 200V is a standard Japanese voltage. trying to run a Japanese machine in the states. I believe 208V will be just fine and the electronics have another...

buck boost transformers for 240V Delta to 208V 3P?

I have a situation where I need to buck voltage of 240-245V down to as close to 200V as possible. 200V is not a common voltage in the US so 208V may have to do. I have a couple single phase dry transformers and was considering configuring in a 3P bucking arrangement. I had to look at the...

Inrush, transformers, and potential energy in induction motor.

LOL, we might get to the point of using a genny if we piss off the power company too bad! On an interesting note, I have a 3 phase, 10HP motor that I tested for fun. Ran it across the line to see inrush, then disconnected it for about 2sec, then reconnected while still very close to sync...

Inrush, transformers, and potential energy in induction motor.

OK, I did some single phase testing at home because I have several phase converters around and already know what they pull and they are easy to test with. Inrush is all on the single phase side here. All 240V The inrush seen directly on the dedicated service wire to a 10HP converter = 155A...

Inrush, transformers, and potential energy in induction motor.

I will try to explain more. We have enough 'amps' in the electric service, BUT this is a rural area and the PC has demanded that we not have anything more than 10HP motors on the line. I find it ridiculous, but I will act like I will comply. The way I see it, as long as we are not hitting the...

Inrush, transformers, and potential energy in induction motor.

Waross, it was my understanding that you cannot sidestep the inrush of an induction motor by spinning it to full speed because the coils are not yet energized and still present a low impedance condition when connected? This makes me want to test it though just out of curiosity!

Inrush, transformers, and potential energy in induction motor.

Smoked, I had the very idea about the variac for soft starts but thought I might try to do something more automated. What would you think about some wye/delta switching along with a series choke that would be switched out once up to speed? I cannot remember the calculation of how much current...

Inrush, transformers, and potential energy in induction motor.

Have a few odd question and figured I would roll them all into one. 1. I believe a running but unloaded 3P motor on a electric service has the effect of damping inrush seen by the power company when another motor starts up? IE, the already running motor helps start the next motor. Is...

Pleading ignorance. Difference in induction motor vs generator?

In tugboats defense, I think he simply means that you cannot simply connect a motor to a load and spin the shaft and make power. You have to excite the coils, but I understand that.

Pleading ignorance. Difference in induction motor vs generator?

My fault for any confusion. I am asking about specific design differences between an induction motor and an induction generator. I realize an induction motor will in fact generate power, but if one was put to work specifically to generate, how would the design change. I did look up the...

Pleading ignorance. Difference in induction motor vs generator?

I am sure there might be some basic adjustments to optimize one or the other like bearings and such, but I was sort of lead to believe there are quite a few differences here? It was my understanding that these are effectively the same thing, just depending on which side of synchronous rotation...

How to mitigate regenerative power from VFD running on a rotary phase converter?

Look at page 24, you will notice two IGBT sets. Also, look on page 34. There are alarms for the inverter and converter sections. It is interesting. Yes, I figure the options would be to slow down decel, or find another way to sync power! I have heard if you have other 3P motors on...

How to mitigate regenerative power from VFD running on a rotary phase converter?

I cannot seem to remember what values we had when we tested the AC line during braking. I have attached a manual of a drive that we also need to run on the line, but appears it may have line regen? I don't have the general manual, but on page 24 you can clearly see there are inverter and...

How to mitigate regenerative power from VFD running on a rotary phase converter?

Yes, this is a line regen system. Take a look at Okuma drives. Built specific for their own machine tools but do have line regen. We have the decel rate pulled back but I think we need to look at other ideas.

How to mitigate regenerative power from VFD running on a rotary phase converter?

First of all, this system is currently functioning fine but has come to attention that VFDs with regenerative braking as opposed to using a braking resistor, may not be able to sync power back to the line if using a rotary phase converter? Testing revealed a DC buss on a VFD with a nominal...

Land surveying units in Catia drafting?

I was asked to regenerate a basic land survey in the USA. I have never done this and went to Catia for this, as being most familiar with the drafting work bench. However, I realized this will not be an easy task because the units common to the surveying world are unique and does not appear to...

Catia users? Generate predefined shapes in drafting?

Cannot say we have ever run into this task and hoping someone has an idea. Basically we are designing a part that requires multiple pieces of sheet metal on it and as a quick guide for the fab shop, we would like to provide a simple layout of how the sheets should be arranged. The sheet...

Method to install strap steel diagonal shear restraints on wood frame building

Thanks so much guys. I will try to answer a few questions. 1. We are building the structure in a unique way in which there is some indication from university testing that flush mounted purlins in joist hangers may reduce the stiffness of the diaphragm roof. If we allow too much movement...

Method to install strap steel diagonal shear restraints on wood frame building

We are working on a wood post frame construction building with corrugated metal sheeting. Though the corrugated sheeting functions to provide shear resistance, we want to supplement this with strap steel diagonal members in key areas. We want to install this low profile product directly to the...
