    Open Circuit Voltage

I have two batteries in series with a circuit breaker in between to enable isolation for servicing. When the breaker is on/closed I read 2S voltage. When the breaker is off/open I read 1.95S volts. Breaker is rated plenty high for service voltage. Breaker appears to be functional, I verified by...

    Current Question

The jumper wires are always <6" long. Outside of that you are dealing with the stranded aluminum wire that comes on the lights. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MCQP7KP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

    Current Question

Ok so I have a string of 500 individually addressable LEDs that pull ~0.3W/LED (12V & up to 20mA). The total current draw for the 12V string should be roughly 12.5A if allowed to run at full power. The controller allows me to set a max current, right now I have it capped at 4A so the LED...

    Railcar axles

Hi All, Curious if someone could tell me the typical diameter of a railcar axle. I believe the journal bearings are typically 6-1/2"x9 or 6-1/2"x 12, etc. Does the the 6-1/2" give any indication on axle diameter? If it helps the railcar in question is 4 axles rated for a max of 286klbs. Thanks

    Motor Performance as a Generator

Hello all, I have an AC motor with a pretty straight forward torque/rpm curve. However I would like to estimate braking torque that can be applied by the motor. I am not so much concerned with how much power is regenerated but wasn't sure how the motor performance differs when used for...

    Vehicle Forces

Not sure that’s faster than a couple equations even if this weren’t a hypothetical vehicle on rail

    Help With Torque Assumptions

Lets assume I have maxed out my differential. How would one go about achieving a higher motor speed? Since the wheel speed is just a function of shaft rpm and differential?

    Vehicle Forces

Hi All, Consider a typical 4-wheeled vehicle with motor/gears/axle assembly. How do I determine the force needed to start the vehicle rolling. Is rolling friction really the only force that you need to overcome to begin acceleration since aero forces are non-existent? For example I have an...

    Help With Torque Assumptions

Unfortunately I’m looking at operating the vehicle at fairly low speed and limited room for large differentials so motor rpms will be in the 200-500 range where most motors don’t have data. I was trying to assume some terrible efficiency and calculate rough heat up times based on specific heat...

    Help With Torque Assumptions

So basically however long it takes to reach max operating temp?

    Help With Torque Assumptions

Hello All, So I am fairly new to designing electric vehicles and had a few questions. So I am looking at a motor that specifies peak torque and continuous torque. What determines how long I can operate at peak torque (no times specified by manufacturer)?
