Fan Law - Belt Drive vs Direct Drive

Thanks all for your posts. I ended up putting direct drive fans with ECM motors. I was able to slow them down 30% because the exhaust from the toilet rooms was above ASHRAE 62.1-2010 requiments. I was also able to change out the pulley on the 100 OA Unit to slow it down about 30%. The system...

Heat pump fan coil in a small closet

Thanks for your help, acually I will put a return air grill in the closet door to make sure I have the correct clear area. I was thinking of lower CFMs (toilet exhaust) for the door under cut. And we are the south so the heatpump should be a good solution. Thanks for your help all.

Residential Cooling Loads - Plug load

I dont work with residental HVAC designs much. I have a 800 SF unit with 3 exposed walls (r-6 wall, r19 attic insul). I can up with 1.3 tons (about600 sf/ton). I used .7 watts per SF lighting and .5 watts per SF plug load. Are these reasonable values for a residental unit? Is the overall...

HVAC Muilt-zone Unit conversion to VAV with reheat - savings

I will let you know. The challenging part is calculating energy savings. If the system does not have a lot of simultaneous heating and coolng requirements the savings may not be all that great. It may be a good case for a Carrier HAP or Trane Trace energy model.

HVAC Muilt-zone Unit conversion to VAV with reheat - savings

Does anyone have a good source that covers the retrofit options to make a Multi-zone unit (hot deck and cold deck sytems that mixes the two air streams to condition a zone)more efficeint? There must be some good info out there but I have not found it yet. I have seen the hot deck disabled and...
