Thanks for the input. We aren't making autobody panels so there are no convoluted designs to stamp. We will be designing panels that will sit on roof tops but the client has specified that the panels should be hail resistant. The shapes will be built up from rectangles and triangles.

Is there a minimum gauge thickness that can be relied upon to resist denting by hail. I am thinking about 1" diameter as a maximum. I searched but most posts are requests for advice on how to fix the dent after it happens. Others are about the Romans ("Hail Caesar").

We have been requested to flame cut an odd shape from a 4" thick 4145 plate for subsequent machining. What are the preheat and post heat requirements for this kind of operation? Brad

We may be threading A36 bar, 5/8", 3/4" and 1" diameter which will then be hot dip galvanized. How much extra thread depth do I need for the galvanizing? We will be using a "Rigid 532" pipe threader with UNC dies. Is there a standard for this? Brad

Thanks for you prompt reply. At least I understand why no elastomers are available. Further investigation has lead me to believe I can offer a woven fiberglass fabric. The only other condition the material needs to satisfy is the seperation of different metals to avoid galvanic action. Brad

We are a structural shop so we aren't familiar with the ASME P numbers. The plate noted above is the Canadian equivalent of 44W carbon steel plate. Does that fit into the P1 category? There is no deformation in this case. Brad

We have been asked to supply a lift lug for pipe made from CSA-G40.21-300W plate. A note on the drawing states "All materials must comply with NACE MR01013" Can anyone tell me if there is a conflict between the plate material and the NACE specification? Brad
