    Owner's Obligation for Manufacture

Hi Everyone, I work for a multi-national company. We're on a large scale extension of one of our chemical plants. We're in the process of removing our main contractor off site for bad performance. The idea was to put our own team of welders and pipe fitters in to complete the job. Completion...

Mixing ASME and EN Welder Qualifications

Can one use welders qualified to EN 287 on piping that has been designed to ASME B31.3 if the essential variables are the same?

    Distortion in Stainless Steel

Hi Everyone, does anyone know if there is an acceptance criteria/tolerance for the amount of ditortion one can allow? How would I measure the effects of a heavily distorted branch weld? Does ASME B31.3 or ASME IX address this at all?

    Weld & Material Traceability

Well you will have to do Positive Material Identification to find out what it is?

    Weld & Material Traceability

Thank You everyone for your input, it was really helpful. Where can I get further guidance on these types of queries? SANS 347 and PED are not that clear. Is there an ISO document?

Unassigned material welded to P1 Material

Hi Guys/Gals, I want to weld an unassigned material (SANS 300 WA/Boilerplate) to a P1 material (SA 106 Gr B). Do I need to qualify a PQR, or can I use a P1 PQR?

    Weld & Material Traceability

It's easy to hard stamp id numbers into large bore piping and fittings. What happens when you get to 1/2" pipes, and especially 1/2" 45 degree elbows? It becomes near impossible. Then, certain paints seem to clog up the id numbers anyway? It seems that this material id requirement is just put in...

    Weld & Material Traceability

Do any of the ASME Codes discuss material traceability and weld maps as a requirement for Code Data Books? In other words, do contractors have to supply weld history and material maps on their AS BUILT isometrics? Is this required by ASME B31.3?

    Metallurgical Damage from Weld Repairs

How many weld repairs is one allowed to do on a pipe butt weld? I'm talking about cutting and welding the same buttweld more than once.

    Filler Metals

If a welder is qualified via F6 filler material, is he also qualified to weld F5 if he used and austenitic filler metal such as 316/308L?

    Materials Identification

Hi could anyone fill me in on how they do material identification at steel mills?

    WPS Thickness Limits

    Thanks again Andy :)

    WPS Thickness Limits

Thanks Andy. They both go to a maximum of 2T but usually there is a bit of reinforcement weld metal which goes above the base metal thickness. So to clarify, what would be qualified in this instance?

    WPS Thickness Limits

Is the thickness limits referred to in ASME IX regulated by the base metal thickness or by the weld metal thickness?
