    UG-29 - Stiffening ring - lateral buckling

Thanks for all the reply! FYI, after some more digging, check out page 11 of this literature that I found online that provides a width to depth ratio of the ring section based on the Young's modulus and yield of material...

    UG-29 - Stiffening ring - lateral buckling

Hi, In BPVC Section VIII, Div-1, Subsection UG 29 on stiffening ring, there is a paragraph that says "CAUTION: Stiffening rings may be subject to lateral buckling. This should be considered in addition to the requirements for Is and I's [see U-2(g)]". How is lateral buckling generally analyzed...

calculating the combined ring-shell section I'

Hi, When you try to compare the combined ring-shell sections, the required moment of inertia is I's formula which is straight forward. But when calculating the combined ring-shell section I' - what is the cross sectional area of the shell section contributing to the moment of inertia? Is it...

    repad - UG37 of BPVC VIII-1

Hi Marty, I see what you're saying. My vendor was thinking of the saddle on top of the vessel shell, not replacing it. Has anyone done analysis for that configuration of saddle on top of shell at the nozzle? Is it significantly different? Thanks! Monk

    repad - UG37 of BPVC VIII-1

Thanks guys, really appreciate it! @SnTman, that are probably not stock, you're right. @Marty, yes, I did use the boiler code to confirm the design. As a follow up question related to nozzle reinforcement. Does the boiler code allow for a saddle instead of a repad? Seems like saddle is more...

    repad - UG37 of BPVC VIII-1

Does anyone know of a vendor that stock or make the repads specified to UG37 of the code. The outside contractor I work with doesn't know and I am not in the pressure vessel industry. I thought a machine shop could make the repad from a flat piece of metal and form it to the outside diameter...
