Pennpiper,
"150 lb class" simply defines the pressure rating at a particular temperature of the fitting, depending on the material. 150 lb fittings can be plated/dipped carbon steel (many different grades/alloys), unplated carbon steel, stainless steel(again many different grades/alloys)...
Thanks,
I believe B16.11 applies to forged fittings, which in the couplers case is 3000 lb and up. Also, calculating the minimum OD based off of minimum wall thickness can be a little tricky to work with, since the maximum major diameter of an internal NPT thread is not clearly defined. I...
Looking for information on the outside diameter dimensions and tolerances for 150 lb half couplings. I currently recieved some 1/2" NPT half couplings from my supplier that had an OD that measured .960". I complained about it but the supplier said it is typical to have large fluctuations in the...
Thanks gr2,
Now if I can just find the fine grain A-675 that meets the Charpy impact test requirements (15 ft lbf @ -50 F). Might be as tough as trying to find A350 in square bar stock form. At least A-675 is a bar spec. I will let you know what I find.
Thanks. I have already contacted Scot Forge and they dont do anything smaller than around 5". Although ASTM A350 is a forging spec, Section 5.3.3 in the spec has an allowance for hot rolled bar to be made to the spec. I guess since hot rolling allows for recrystallization, the end result in...
Anyone know of any mills that would be willing to hot roll a small quantity (10,000 lbs or less) of 1-9/16" square bar? The material needs to meet ASTM A350 Grade LF2 Class 1 specs. I am having a tough time finding anyone to do it. Hate to go oversees but I might not have a choice in this case...
gr2vessels,
Thank you for the response. UG-14 refers to cylindrically shaped parts. The bar I am using is square, although the internal bore is cut on a gun drill and is of course "cylindrical". Do you think UG-14 still applies?
Hello all,
I have just completed the design of a pressure retaining device to be used in the oil and gas industry. Some of the apps this unit will be used in will require ASME B31.3 certification. One of the components in the design needs to be machined from 1-9/16" or 1-5/8" square carbon...
