I need some help in determining whether or not to re-commission a transformer or not, has we are not 100% sure that the transformer had or had not seen a through fault. The transformer feeder did not trip but the incomer to that board did trip on Timed- earth fault(51G), no other protection on...
ok before you all go on. what does this transformer feed. if motors or even other transformers are feeding of this board then a Star secondary will not suit your situation. also consider the that by incorprating a Star secondary that you will have to re-config the Restricted Earth Fault...
the rating on the side of the CT is the Minimum value that you should obtain. It also should correspond with the formula to calculate Vkp= S/(Ns*ALF)

i am a young technician, and have been put on a new project, but i have limited knowledge and experience in grading of substaions, feeders and transformers. Anyone who knows where i can get valuable information regardings this topic, please help.
i was just wondering if anyone can help me, by explaining the old Transf. Diff pricipal, using inter-posing CT's. i have not worked on such a system until now. i understand the protection with the new electronic relays but not when you introduce electro-mechanical relays, with iner-posing CT's.
Can someone please help. I would like to know, why most HV transformers are connected Star-Delta, either on the primary or on the secondary. Does it have to do with the fault levels, or not. Why not just connect it Star-Star.
