    Top curb angle

Why do we use top curb angle for roof to shell attachment. Why don't we directly weld the roof to the shell?

    Stiffener Circ. Stress at Tip

Check the attached file. I have managed to lower the tip stress by changing the type of stiffener ring. But the longitudinal stress at midspan is only addressed by the number of saddles and their locations. It is backfilled around the...

    Stiffener Circ. Stress at Tip

I am designing a vessel that is 100 ft long (tan to tan) and 16 ft wide (diameter). This vessel has 23 stiffening rings and demands for more than three saddles. I have tweaked a lot with the stiffener sizes, materials and number of saddles (four) to remove all exceeding stresses but now only one...

    Reinforcement Pads

Thanks for your replies guys! I got the concept.

    Reinforcement Pads

But we are connecting a closed pipe at the end that will also contain the pressure. Stresses are produced due to the application of forces. By creating a hole we are not increasing any force that would act on the shell. The reinforcement seems illogical to me. I just can't get the concept behind it.

    Reinforcement Pads

Why do we use reinforcement pads whenever there is an opening of a particular size in the vessel? Is it due to stresses induced due to cutting and welding?
