I have checked with the bearing manufacturere (they are a US firm) and have measured the shaft diameter. The shaft is with in specifications for what the bearing company recommends. Could an overloading of the bearing have a simillar failure?
Many of the hydraulic pump manufacturers have extensive specs on the torgue limitations on the smaller splines sizes from 5/8 through 1 3/4. These are all sliding fits.
We have been getting gears made from this alloy. We are starting to see failure not on the gear teeth but on the bearing journals. In the past we have been using 8620 or 4320. Does anyone have any expreience with these different alloys. The application is for hydraulic pumps and motors.

This is going off on a tangent but, You mentioned 20CrMnTi.

We are starting to use gears made from 20CrMnTi,in the past all gears have been made from 8620 or 4320. These gears are case hardened our spec is for the hardness to be 60-64Rc after grind with a case depth of .04 to .05 deep.
We also spec less than 15% retained austenite.
The gears teeth seem...
