    continuously adjustable fail-safe brake

I’m looking at fail-safe emergency brakes for a winch application, specifically a brake that could have the braking torque continuously adjusted during operation of the winch, and then when power is lost, it applies the braking torque that was set. From my research so far, it seems that...

    440C tempering question

I have a 440C part that is tempered at 400 F to a Rockwell C hardness of 58-60. I am looking into a coating process that needs to be done at 428 F. Will being at that temperature reduce the hardness or change any of its other properties significantly?

martensitic stainless steel spring stress at low temperature

Its a machined spring like the ones shown here: http://www.taylordevices.com/machined-springs.html It is made of custom 455. There is no temperature vs. elastic modulus data defined in solidworks right now. I guess I probably posted in the wrong forum because it seems the difference is likely...

martensitic stainless steel spring stress at low temperature

Hi, I'm doing stress analysis using solidworks on a martensitic stainless steel spring that is operating cyclically at -30C ambient temperature. The analysis at room temperature results in a max stress of around 80 ksi. When I apply a temperature load to the analysis, the resulting max stress...
