Pilot Piping for a pilot operated relief valve downstream of a Bursting disk

Sorry, I missed read your posting. I could see the advantage of installing the pilot upstream of the BD. It may solve the 3% delP required for the PSV inlet.

Pilot Piping for a pilot operated relief valve downstream of a Bursting disk

BD is very reliable in term of safety; it breaks when it is needed. It is also very unreliable in term of operation; as it breaks when it is not supposed to. It is recommended that the operating pressure should not be higher then 75% of the BD set pressure. PSV is very reliable in term of...

Use of ESDV as DBB valve

DBB is provided for positive isolation of an equipment from high pressure system for maintenance. I believe it is recommended in API 14E or 14J(cant remember exactly which) for process system higher than ANSI 600#. DBB is normally provided around and to by-passed equipment like control valve...

How to fix PAHH, PALL, LAHH, LALL etc set points

MMS mandate basic office safety instrumentation setting requirements. Check it out under 30CFR. Can't remember which series of the CFR.

    Assist Gas for Flares

Flaring diesel, you must be boiling off diesel at high temperature. Won't the diesel heating value be in the thousand of btu per scf. I am not a flare specialist but I believe you will need air to assist burning rather then natural gas and definitely not propane.

Relief Valve Installation and Sizing Basis?

A RV can be located at the outlet piping of the pressure vessel provided the pressure drop from the vessel to the PV does not exceed 3% of the PV set pressure. Also there should not have any internal that can block the PV e.g. mass pad, valve, etc. When sizing PV for control valve failed open...

    Subsea shut down valve

Since the pipeline is near the platform, why not use surface SDV. You will need two level of protection one SDV and another PSV.

Salt on Ice - how does it melt?

How about when salt molecule touch ice, it depress the ice molecule causing it to give up heat as it lowers it temperature. The heat is then absorbed by the solid ice and caused it to melt. The melt water mixed with the salt solution and is then depress to causing it to give up more heat as it...

    Hydrotesting Requirements of B31.3

Valve body are normally hydrotested and is normally not tested with the piping system and if it is, the system would be tested with the valve open. Valve leak you refer to if it is from the valve seat and is internal, that's normal and the valve standard allows certain leakage code. Your are...

dewpoint of water at tempratures less than 32¦F

Based on the 45 ppmv of water content, which is about 2.5 #/MMSCF at 600 psia, the due point is about -10 oF. Check it out in GPSA Engineering Data book.

Black Deposit on 316L Dryer Vessel

Looks like you may have ferrous sulfide in your system. Dry ferrous sulfide ignites spontaneously when in contact with air. I have heard a few incidents of this problem with pipeline pig receivers. To avoid this spontaneous fire, the operator wets the receiver before opening.

Speed of Sound of Hydraulic fluids

Doesnt seem right. Speed of sound in air is about 1000 ft/s. Expect speed of sound in liquid to be above 3000 ft/s Accoustic Velocity = ((F22*144)/(F48*(1+(F22/F20)*(F24+F26)/(F24-F26))))^0.5 F22 = bulk modulas of fluid F48 = Mass density of fluid F20 = Pipe modulas of elasticity F24 = Pipe...

BENZENE LINE - UNCLASSIFIED HAZARDOUS ZONE

Your client is right, if there is the pipe is fully welded and in a well ventilated area without containment. Don't like the idea myself, but that's what the code say. Area classification is based on normal operating conditions and not based on accidental event.

Heat of vaporization for relief valve design

What is the set pressure of relief valve? I am supprise the HoV for both Method one and two is so high. You might want to check your input data. If the molecular weight and the set pressure is not too high, I would use the fig in API. If the set pressure is out of the range, I would set it...

Chinese Rules for Fixed Offshore Platforms?

Unless you intend to class your platform to the Chinese Classification of Shipping, you require their rules. I believe their is no requirement to class a platform in China. But you do required the platform to be certified by one of the four classification societies, name DNV, ABS, Lloyd, and...

    Dynamic Pipeline simulation

I am interested in this thread but since there is no one answering this thread , may be I should response this to keep it alive. Power Source for Fire Pumps

For offshore and marine industries, each of the firewater pumps is to have its own independent power supply. In your case failure of power supply all the three pumps will be out of service. This is not recommended and should not be acceptable. As dpc suggested, you should have at least one...

    Noise Level Calculation

Noise is seldom a problem in multiphase flow piping and is usually limited by erosional/corrosion velocity. Check it out in API RP 14E for erosional/corosion velocity guideline. Best of luck.
