rharr, I have recently purchased the "Worldwide guide" recommended by Corypad. It so far has been an excellent reference book that is quite easy to navigate. I can't comment on Stahlschlüssel as I have not yet seen that book.
Thanks Cory, Most of the time, my customer is in the same boat that I am. They are given a rush RFQ with prints and specifications in another language and no supporting documentation. I try to offer them an available substitute but make it very clear that we do not guarantee that substitute...
I was unable to resolve this issue. I deferred the problem back to my customer and have not recieved a response. I am assuming that something was copied in error.
It sounds to me like you are looking for a cotter pin. If that isn't strong enough and you need to go solid, as long as there is clearance you can use a solid rivet and an end cap. Either way you should be able to get these items off the shelve from a fastener supply house.
I have a callout on a print for "material must conform to ASTM A749/A749m". I am quoting a rivet from an assembly drawing that specifies the same material for the plate steel and the rivet. I am unable to find any info on this astm spec.
Thanks for the input folks! You are both right. I am cold forming but apparently the previous supplier was screw machining and hardening. My customer wasn't aware of the hardening requirement and subsequently is backpedalling now. I am offering 1541 due to the higher mangenese content.
I am looking for an SAE equivalent material to USt 36 Din 17111. The product is a rivet for a Volkswagen. Normally we are looking at C1010 but I'd like some sort of confirmation of this.
