Thanks for the information posted. What I have been able to determine so far is if you don't need boundary elements then one layer is fine. Once the stress is too high and boundary elements are needed, you really need 2 layers and tie them together. My case is not a special shear wall.
What...
Are you permitted to have just a single layer of reinforcing at the boundary elements. The code requires confinement steel if compression exists. So providing confinement is really not possible with just 1 layer of reinforcing. I believe you must always have 2 layers with confinement ties. Does...
With the load being perpendicular the distance where the load starts is zero and continues until the footing is outside the soil wedge. So it is difficult to apply this equation.
Looking for advice on how to best design a cantilever retaining wall with a foundation up high on the retained side. The load is a strip load that is perpendicular to the wall. Text books provide guidance for when the loading is isolated or parallel with the wall.
Galambos,
Galambos,
I had to do something similar to what I believe you are attempting. I took as set of master specification and other client specific information and edited out alot of the boiler plate. Its time consuming but the trick is to reduce the information down to what is truely...
Samdamon,
I read the Blodgett book over the weekend and it has the exact case I have. Its approach is a little different then the AISC design guide but it works and is very practical.
Thanks all of the good info.
I have reviewed section 4.4 and 4.6. The equations seem to be for concentrated torsion. The example in the Design Guide 9 is also for concentrated torsion. I contacted AISC-Solutions requesting some examples on uniform torsion but they seem to come back and say the guide was made for wide...
I have a very typical situation but cannot find any good practical information on design. I have a spandrel beam at a stair tower that must support a brick facade which is eccentric to the beam. With the opening from the stairwell there is no place to install bracing to counter the torsion. So I...
