Laser Purchase, who's been to the vendors?

Hi wakobav I bought my first laser about 1-1/2 ago. So many choices- what brand, what size table, how much power, what kind of resonator? Mine was a replacement for a punch plasma, so I stayed with the same size (4 x 8). I went with a 4kw for piercing quickly, and the ability to cut thicker...

    Driveline braking

76GMC1500 I saw american hotrod, but the rear end in the '56 had a drop out center section, I thought maybe a 9" ford in a custom setup? The inboard disc brakes would reduce the unsprung weight at the wheel. Back to driveline brakes. With large tires (16r20) it is difficult to get parking...

    Driveline braking

Travismac- I used to have a model t ford with transmission brake. It got really exciting on ice. I have also seen Driveshaft brakes used for parking brakes on many trucks from the factory. In Arizona drivehaft brakes are not legal for service brakes, we get hasseled for them on our rockwell...

    Excessive machining noises during cutting

I run mazak fh4800 40 taper machines. The cabinets on these are like giant speaker. Place a 12" square piece of dynamat (available at stereo shops) in the middle of cabinet panel that you can. I have found that cutters with asymmetrical teeth produce much less pronounced vibration. After...

Harvey- here are some cutting programs for 3/8 and 1/2" steel. Sheet heating is a major problem so stagger the order of your parts across the sheet. If you would like more cut conditions, post your e-mail and I will send a file to you. Good Luck (0.375 HRS FAST) (STANDARD FOCUS) (0.077...

Delta or Wye Motor for Phase Converter

Would a delta or wye motor provide for better voltage stability in a rotory phase converter in the 25 hp. range? I realize an AC-DC-AC inverter would be best, but not cost effective. Thanks for your input.

    Crazy Gyroscopic Idea

In the 70's there was a truck on the show circuit with a gyroscope out of small ship mounted on a gimble in the bed. it could lift the front of the truck off the ground sitting still. The ships use the gyros to keep panengers from getting sea sick. It would certanly prevent the body from...

    looking for hex-shaped steel tube

I form simular parts using a hose crinping machine with dies cut to a hex. Of course this only works if you are doing a lot of short sections. 1-1/8 is probably on the small size to use an expanding die, but it would give a smaller radius in the corners.

    PREHARDENED MATERIAL

It would be material that is hardened from the mill. I use 41L40 bar that is 28-32 rc. It machines well for me. In a lathe I can cut .200 depth of cut, .022 per revelution at 600 surface feet. I get a life of about 150 parts per insert.
