Wouldn't any plans that were sealed and submitted to the reviewing agency for approval be a matter of public record for the individual projects?
If that is the case, then you should have no problem retrieving a set. It seems the evidence you are looking for may in fact be public record.

I didn't take your questions as being rude at all. They are good questions. I don't believe there would be a problem but the governing jurisdiction has not seen this before and are hesitant to test the water. I think they concerned that the fire truck would not be able to get out.
They are...
Has anyone had any experiences with constructing a roundabout near a fire station? At first glance I don't see it being a problem but I want to check with others in the event that I am overlooking something. Currently the intersection is a "T" intersection with a single stop sign.
I don't know of another software like AutoTURN but I would strongly suggest you use something other than paper templates. I have seen blocks in cad files that people drew from templates and while they would demonstrate that a vehicle could make the turn, AutoTURN has shown otherwise.
Templates...
I agree with ACTrafficengr. I can't imagine how they would have almost had a head on collision between two intersections 500' apart, on a collector street at 35 mph. I suspect someone or maybe two someone's were driving in the center left turn lane longer than they should have been.
A median...
Cara413, great post! Actually, I use some of your states standards for checking the designs that I have worked on.
I have never used Rodel to determine the apron size though, I am curious to see what it would say. I use AutoTURN to determine the apron sizes by creating the path of the vehicle...
Well said Debaser! I believe the negative reaction to them comes from all of the poorly designed traffic circles that were constructed in the U.S. before we caught on to the modern roundabout that other countries have modifed and groomed over the years.
With the previous traffic circles you...
You should look into using Sheet Set Manager. You can activate by typing SHEETSET at your AutoCAD COMMAND: prompt.
By using sheet set manager, among other great uses you can print an entire set of plans by using one command. I have mine set up for Full Size plots and one set up for half size...
If you are using these for approval from a jurisdiction or to demonstrate that a particular vehicle can make a certain turn, I would highly recomend AutoTURN over using any blocks as AutoTURN is based on the AASHTO design guides and will better support your demonstration. Additionally, I have...
Jiminem2,
I understand what you are saying. I used to use the same method years ago using COGO 300 when taking raw survey data and inputting into cadd. I thought of a couple of things you could try depending on the accuracy.
1. Do you have the radius point of the arc you are drawing? I am...
Do you know who makes the truck that you are looking for? Typically what I do is look up the vehicle manufacturer and see if they have a web site. Some of them will publish the trucks sizes and specifications. Just plug that information into your AutoTURN custom template and you're off and...
I haven't used an oval one. I did find an egg shaped kind of make shift traffic circle once though. I think it was the Architects version of on-site traffic control though, as it was built in a shopping center near an entrance. It had stop signs and one way signs etc... and on one leg of it...
I have been seeing multi-lane roundabouts more and more now, usually in rural areas or along interstate exits, but when done right they can handle the traffic.
If you have an opportunity or if you haven't already done so, check out the new 2009 MUTCD. It has a roundabout section in it now...
ACtrafficengr, I agree it's hard to argue with the results that come from a retrofit or replacing a signal. I haven't done a retrofit yet but I would love to do a before and after study as you did, when I get the chance to work on one. My projects have been all new installs or modifying an...
Do you mean, as in a Traffic Noise Analysis? If so, check out www.dot.state.il.us/desenv/noise/NoisePart2Main.htm for a picture of one and information on what it involves.
Hey Tbone1, thanks for the input.
So does the egg shape design replace the truck apron?
I would love to see a .PDF of it if possible.
What is the circulating lane width, and did you have trouble with the smaller vehicles using it at faster speeds?
Thanks CygnusX1. Good information.
I was surprised at first by the negative reactions too, but then realized they weren't describing roundabouts, but rather the old traffic circles.
Your description of the truck apron is what I am hearing some of our local jurisdictions describing. I think...
