    Carbon Fibre to Aluminium Adhesion

Hi, If you add expanding graphite to the adhesive at the EOL you can heat the adhesive to 150 degrees IIRC and the graphite expands and shatters the adhesive. This is one method automotive OEMs are looking into with regards to vehicle disposal at EOL. John

Welded joint/bonded joint strengths for aluminium

Hi, I have a part where I weld a 5mm strip of aluminium to a 5mm wall tube. The strip is mitred and welded. I am looking to put a flange on the tube, machine a hoop in the strip and then bond to the tube. The question is what sort of thickness should the hoop section be to approximate to the...

    Automotive suspension materials type query

Hi All, Many thanks for all the info. I have now decided I am going to try to replace the bearing materials that the shafts run on as opposed to replacing the shafts themselves as it may be a wholly easier proposition. If I do decide to replace them ill certainly send them off for analysis...

    Automotive suspension materials type query

The reasoning behind this is I am trying to take some non-servicable parts and make them servicable. To this end I may now actually retain the exisiting shafts, of a known strength, and work on making the housings servicable. It may be the easiest course of action as opposed to a complete...

Load transferring shaft on control arm - material?

Hi, Ill endeavour to get a couple of pics up. Basically they are two swivel joints that use a supported shaft with a ball joint type end. They are non serviceable but I am now thinking of modifying the housings to use the existing shafts and make an adjustable servicable joint rather than use...

    Automotive suspension materials type query

I actually have the shaft I want to replace. Is there any way to check what material type it is through analysis? The one I was designing to replace it was going to be of a larger diameter anyway. Thanks John

    Automotive suspension materials type query

Hi, I've posted this in the automotive section but I think it's more of a materials query so have posted here too. My suspension uses two link shafts to transfer the movement from the control arm to the shock absorber via a cam link.I am looking to manufacture some of these link shafts and was...

Load transferring shaft on control arm - material?

Hi, My suspension uses two link shafts to transfer the movement from the control arm to the shock absorber via a cam link. I am looking to manufacture some of these link shafts and was debating the best material to use. I assume the main loads are going to be bending loads and to this end I...
