I have looked at TDR. That technology is primarily for twisted pairs or coax. Some years ago the telephone co (bell) had a bridge to locate such opens. I have not been able to find any info on it, how it worked, availability, etc.

Does anyone know of a piece of commercial equipment that will detect the distance from a start terminal to an "open" in a magnetwire wound coil?
I need a solenoid design program that uses the traditional NI calculations, the effect of bobbin geometry and the magnetic permeability and geometry of the plunger and frame. The desired result would be the solenoid force vs distance.
Be very careful when replacing coils used in solenoids. The ac versions generally operate at 12, 24, 120, or x120 volts ac. DC coils generally are rated at 6, 12, 100 vdc, etc.
The coil does not know if the applied voltage is ac or dc. Within limits they only care about the magnitude of the...
An MOV acts like a Double Anode Zener (a very rare device) or two zeners back to back.
However there are very important differences. The impedance (slope) of the I vs V at avalanche is very large for a MOV. This is why the voltage max is so much larger that the min.
Unfortunately, each time an...
The best way to drive a DC solenoid at this frequency is to gate a n-enhancement MOSFET (with the integral diode) using a simple signal generator. Put the solenoid (s)in as the load and there will be essentially no "arcing" as with mechanical relays. Size the fet to the load current...
