UCS-66(a)(2) states the governing thickness of a casting shall be its largest nominal thickness.
What about a casting valve body if it is required to follow ASME, which its thickness is various at different locations?
Usually the wall thickness at the mechanical connection will be the...
I have a question regarding strength verification between the bonnet and body of a valve.
Please see the attached drawing, which is for a manual gate valve.
ASME16.34 only has bolting strengh verification. How about the flanges on the body and bonnet? Are there any formulas?
If using ASME...
Dalai,
The part is 8", which was the heat treat time came from, I think.
Yah, per the spec, it should be cooled at liquid and then have temper per the spec.
So I am going to dig up more information.
Thank you!

I have a question regarding heat treatment of steel casting.
Is it acceptable/ok if a 9 hrs heat treatment chart shows an interruption - lets say 10 minutes?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks. It really help me to understand the code.
Usually a pressure vessel will be operated under the design pressure and a safety device will be set to the design pressure.
But the setting pressure of the safety device will have tolarences. Does that mean a vessel possibley can't operate...
Appreciate your quick response!
As I understand, a safety device will be designed to 1.1 setting pressure.
Did you mean "The device may activate at any pressure lower than MAWP. " is when it is set to a pressure lower than MAWP or there could be a situation it reacts below the setting pressure?
Dear everyong,
If a pressure vessel or system is designed to 300 psi, is it allowed to set up the setting pressure of a safety device to 1.1 times design pressure?
Thanks in advance.
The manufacturer chooses no RT or NDT. I am trying to think whether there is any way to do as pressure vessel's design.
Yes, hydrotest for both body and assembled valve is performed.
Thanks.
Need helps for the valves fabricated by welding.
A valve uses a tee as body with flanges welded on and is designed by using B16.34 as a guide, but not exactly followed.
Per ASME B16.34, welds of this type of valves should be NDT examed. I understand that the formula used for calculating wall...
I have a similar question and found out this thread.
I am still not clear about the qualified thickness range of base metal.
Per your discussion, the max. qualified thickness of base metal is 10mm, which seems determined per the deposite metal. So why the min. thickness could not be...
