    How to disassemble gearbox?

Is it broken? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wash out the grease with solvent such as kerosene, parts cleaner, etc. If the rust really bothers you I suggest Evapo-Rust or the equivalent to eliminate it. Then verify smooth operation and reassemble.

24VDC Control level wire colors.... whatever I want?

OK, thank you folks very much. Technically, it was not I performing this wiring but a co-worker. It seemed not quite kosher to me, to use green for not-a-ground, and I wanted unbiased input. I would rather use a different color, so if I am charged with the task, I will try to go that...

24VDC Control level wire colors.... whatever I want?

Central USA... 4-circuit control panel for in-house testing, to run timered tests of 240V single phase items up to 2HP... It's OK to use red for (+) and green for (-) on the 24VDC which runs the timer, current sensors, etc., right? As it is in-house and not for others, I can use any color...

    Simple transformer hookup question- 480V/3ph to 240/3ph & 240/1ph & 120/1ph

Thanks, folks. xnuke, I think you summed it up nicely. We are using the transformer to provide mainly 240-3phase or 240-1phase to run the Test Motor, a mere 3-4A draw probably. The motors may require either 240V-1phase, 240V-3phase, or 480V-3phase, depending on the model. The 120V will be...

    Simple transformer hookup question- 480V/3ph to 240/3ph & 240/1ph & 120/1ph

The label says that the 120V and/or 240V 1-phase use must be limited to 5% of the rated KVA I get a limit therefore of 0.3kVA or 300VA or... around 2.5A for the 120V 1-phase draw, which should be well above our actual usage except perhaps rare brief intermittent spikes. Our nominal "480V"...

    Simple transformer hookup question- 480V/3ph to 240/3ph & 240/1ph & 120/1ph

Here is the wiring schematic: illustration #25 at http://www.galco.com/techdoc/acme/t-2a-53329-1s_wd.pdf Hope this helps.

    Simple transformer hookup question- 480V/3ph to 240/3ph & 240/1ph & 120/1ph

I have the 6kVA Acme electric T-2A-53329-1S Transformer to install in a testing machine. Like http://www.grainger.com/product/ACME-ELECTRIC-Transformer-4WTZ2 Input is 480V 3ph. Three hots and Protective Earth ground. Outputs will be 240V 3ph and of course readily available off that is 240V...

Test Bench TERMINALS needed for 240-1+ to 480-3+ - USA

Thanks, folks. I had not heard of "ZIF" before. That should help in the search for candidates. Yes, we need to connect to unterminated stripped stranded wire briefly in order to verify operation of the unit. These are agricultural units generally not required to be UL certified. We do need...

Test Bench TERMINALS needed for 240-1+ to 480-3+ - USA

I should clarify that I don't want screw terminals or anything that requires a tool to secure and release. Finger or hand actuated spring loaded pinch clamp.

Test Bench TERMINALS needed for 240-1+ to 480-3+ - USA

Surely someone sells such a thing? I have made my own out of UHMW plastic and screws and fiberglass rod with springs so far. There was a recessed hole to insert the Unit To Be Tested's power cord wires into.... then the fiberglass rods press the strands against the contact screw within the...

can HR 'force' one to sign a Non-Compete agreement after 5+ years?

Interesting comments, thanks for the input. I tried to get ahold of a labor attorney today, but had no luck due to other duties. I have been with the company around 5-6 years. I am not clear on the exact wording of any previous or upcoming NC agreement- the duration I am sure can't be less...

can HR 'force' one to sign a Non-Compete agreement after 5+ years?

IT seems my HR dept discovered that there is no non-compete agreement signed by me in my files. Suddenly they want me to sign one "as a condition of employment"... They seem to think that I had signed one initially, but I have no recollection of that, nor do I have a copy of this document, nor...

    Selecting a DC Motor

I will venture a guess that you are not going to move a ton of coal an hour anywhere, including downhill, with a $100 gearmotor. Not for long. You need some realistic numbers to work with. And you should address the safety considerations as set forth above.

Vibrating reed frequency meter- or alternative?

This is a 50" panel fan with more or less an "X" strut between motor/ bearings and the panel/ orifice [struts are steel rectangular tube perhaps undersized at about 19x50mm]. If mounted by the panel edges, say to a building, all is well, no excess vibrations from this type fan. Other sites...

Vibrating reed frequency meter- or alternative?

Strong - Yes, thanks, that is what I had in mind. I have no clever phone so apps are not going to help. Unless I get a 200/mo boost to cover that sort of thing.

Vibrating reed frequency meter- or alternative?

I have a fan of diameter 4 ft or so, the outer panel of which is vigorously vibrating, but only in some few installation configurations. I would like to know the frequency of the vibrations that are being observed in order to help devise a solution. I recall seeing little boxes years ago at...

Is it OK to use a 240V connector body on a 480V line?

How did the facilities' 480V equipment end up with a 240V plug? ============== I suspect my supervisor did that, to use the 480 thru the University's equipment w/o changing the University's cord ends. the person doing the work couldn't be bothered to put on the correct plug. ===============...

Is it OK to use a 240V connector body on a 480V line?

I had the occasion recently to work with a 480V circuit. For a temporary hookup in a University environment, a prior visitor had installed a 240V 20A 3ph +ground female connector body [L15-20] on the 480V cord, which is switched at a fuse/ switch box nearby- perhaps 20 ft of cable. The unit...

How to determine a frequency reference for VFD

If you need EXACT speed control, you might consider the use of the VFD to operate an EC [Electrically commutated, aka Brushless DC] type motor.
