I would agree with EPete that extremely high P. I. values do indicate insulation degradation. I have attached data of two identical 9.2 MW, 13.8 kV motors that I tested some months ago. These have been examined and visual indications of degradation & PD observed. A spare motor is being planned...

The motors are all of 6.6 kV. I do not know for sure that stress grading coatings are present; but this is quite standard for 6.6 kV motors (certainly for the first two; which are of BHEL make).
The top row is for October 2012, bottom row for October 2011.

I assume the voltage rating must be based on the insulation level provided in the probe rather the arc scenario; as arc would be nominal when generator is energized from a HV test kit. Iris never had its own probe; they got it when they took over Adwel.

I am looking for a supplier for TVA/Corona Probe, other than Iris. The Iris instrument cannot be used beyond 6.9 kV. I need to localize the PD on the individual generator bars. Any feedback would be most appreciated.

The 0.1 megohms is on the LV side, so machine can run. The winding IR has weakened, but the winding is not grounded. Oil filtration & dry-out can improve the IR value as required.

Thanks for the input, this is great. Did you wrap the cable around the shaft or rotor bore or both? How long did you pass the current before reversing the polarity? Did you use a gauss meter to assess the magnetism level?
