Thanks to everybody,
The cylinder I'm investigating on has a rod made from 17-4PH (Nikrom brand). We had inquired the manufacturer of these rods and they came up with the theory of galvanic corrosion after we supplied the detailed drawing of the cylinder. They said that, because of an internal...
Hi All,
This is a detail picture of a corrosion spot area on a cylinder's rod.
The cylinder is working in a marine environment.
I would like to know from any experience person, what they think it might
have caused this.
Thanks,
Hi
I had the same problem, and could not find a proper way to fix it.
Right now I've also another problem...when moving object they start to move in an uncontrolled
way and after that when selecting an object the handle appear far away from the object itself.
Picture attached...
Hi to everybody,
I would like to know if it's normal to require a chroming process on 17-4 PH steel material.
We were asked to produce an hydraulic cylinder with a rod made from 17-4 PH steel with chroming.
If chroming on this steel can be done, is there any specification on how it should be...
Hi Kirrer,
Thanks for the info. It looks interesting. Just to understand your suggestion. Do you meant that I should combine to element (clutch + Mechanical diode) by myself? I would prefer one single item that I can buy from the shelf.
Thanks
Ciao
Hi,
I would like to know if exist a "one way torque limiter".
Basically I'm looking for something that fully engage in
one direction while disengage with torque friction in the other direction.
Thanks
Hi EdDanzer,
Yaa..true, it look like is installed backward.
But I can't get when you say "wiping lip was compressed against the bottom of the step"
Would you like to explain it further?
Thanks

Hi Automatic2,
Would you like to explain further?
The scraper used is made of two part a metal housing and a rubber part. You can read the code in the sketch I provided (trelleborg brand).
Since I'm not the manufacturer of the cylinder by only the end user, I'm now wondering if they have...
Hi,
Sice we can't take any risk, we will replace them and get back the old ones. Once they are back we will send for analysis and I will let you know.
Thanks
Bye
Thanks
Yes, the pin is in contact with painted steel. I tought the paint will act as separator and prevent galvanic phenomena.
The weather at the port where the machine is installed it might experience very hot and humid environment (tropical climate).
Thanks
Hi,
I need some help from some expert.
We have made the part in the attached picture with AISI 2205.
Is it possible that get rusted in that way?
The machine as travelend by ship and it will be installed in
a port.
Thanks
Hi to everybody and thanks for your reply,
I will exlude pressure becasue that seal is just a scraper whose function is to keep dirt away from the main seal.
The failure accured after few weeks of the machine installation, and the load condition were below average.
As first level of analysis...
Thanks Ted,
Can you tell me what is your idea behind ice as possible cause?
I will exclude pressure, while I still keep bent rod as
possible cause.
Thanks
Hi to everybody,
I would like to know if anybody can make any guess on the root cause failure of the following metal screaper seal on a hydraulic cylinder.
Thanks
