    Grade beam/tie beam

It really depends on the actual use of the beam. "Grade beam" can mean two things depending on who you speak to. Is it indented to design the beam to span freely between support, or would it be continuously supported by the soil? If it will be supported continuously by the soil, then I would...

Transfer Loads From Etabs to Safe

Marque13 - The purpose of this is to account for the stiffness of the wall-above in the slab design. Rabi24 - A solution for this would be to draw a weightless wall-above in your SAFE model over the imported beam lines - After the walls are drawn, you can then delete the beams imported from ETABS.

Horizontal Reactions from ETABS Load Export

Chekre - thanks for the quick reply. In your opinion, does it make sense to keep these horizontal forces in the SAFE model since they will technically exist in the real actual condition? thanks!

Horizontal Reactions from ETABS Load Export

Good morning team, Quick question - When exporting wind and seismic loads from ETABS into SAFE, along with the vertical reactions, imported nodes also have horizontal (base shear) reactions attached to them. My question is: 1)Do these horizontal (in-plane) applied forces affect the slab...

ETABS 2013 automesh affecting outrigger columns

Right now I have my slab bending stiffness down to 0.25. Maybe I should reduce it a bit more?

ETABS 2013 automesh affecting outrigger columns

Also in addition, my total base shear from wind loads is increasing by about 26% with using the default meshing - something does not seem right

ETABS 2013 automesh affecting outrigger columns

Good morning, I'm having an interesting issue with ETABS 2013 I have a concrete high rise structure with an interior core wall and perimeter mega-columns. These mega-columns are being engaged in the lateral system by a typical outrigger system (3 outriggers equally spaced up the tower). For...

SAFE 12 - Punching shear in piles (springs)

Afternoon all, As you probably know, SAFE will check "punching shear" for spring supports, which we would use to model piles. I was curious how it could possibly check punching shear for these elements since they are not assigned a length or width, which one would need to calculate a critical...

Deep Beam Shear in Pile Caps

Afternoon, I've recently been involved in a few pile cap shear strength discussions and was wondering if anyone here had any additional insight on the topic. Basically, I have a pile cap that qualifies as a "deep beam" per ACI 318-08 section 15.5.3 (specifically, it qualifies as the case...

Etabs vs Safe Area Load Summation for Overlapping Elements

I usually just draw "NONE" slab areas over my actual slabs and assign additional loading to them, which is similar to what I do in SAFE.

    Two story concrete deck

I've personally never tried to export loads from SAFE, so I can't comment on that question directly. An alternative would be to model the entire structure in ETABS, which will then give you the option to export loads at each floor to import directly into each individual SAFE model.

    SAFE 2014 Modeling Question

I've had the same issue and haven't found a solution to it. Sometimes it's quicker just to re-draw everything as a DXF and import it again.

Transfer Loads From Etabs to Safe

Nathan, My company uses ETABS and SAFE for our analysis. I've had much success with gravity/lateral analysis in ETABS and exporting directly to SAFE. Usually, we export on to the foundation level, but if you have a transfer slab at a higher level, you can export to that as well. If you want...
