    Finally an interesting question

I hope this one is interesting one. I have an existing 80 feet long wall as one side of exist bldg. The wall is there so it should have adequate footing etc. The height of wall is 40 feet. 20 feet of which is below grade. In the top 20 feet portion I am creating an 40 feet wide opening. So...

    Laterally braced beam

I have to design a lintel 40 feet long. It will be supporting 12" solid cmu wall above so top flanges will be embed. Is it laterally supported or not. I think not.

Norfolk , New York, Snow Load

Fianlly I got hold of the Code Engineer for Town of Norfolk, NY. He informed me that they follow New York State Building code BUT Pg = 65 PSF.

Norfolk , New York, Snow Load

csd72 Yes Norfolk near Massena. So Pg = 55 PSF. Which building code they follow in design?

Norfolk , New York, Snow Load

Does any body has idea what is the ground snow load for NOrfolk City in New York state and also which buidling design code they follow. As per ASCE snow load is CS. So I am trying to contact the city engineer but no luck yet.

    ACI minimum area of steel

I have 3 feet deep pile cap. Due to lateral loads, I am placing rebars E.W. T&B. The Ast from analysis is less than minimum Ast = .0018 x b x h as Per ACI 318-05, Section 7.12, 10.5.4. I am placing rebars each way both at top & bottom. Now I need this minimum Ast each way at top and bottom of...

horizontal cold joint in one-way slab/joist construction?

Swivel63, Appreciate your input but please read question carefully. You answered "Vu is factored shear force at the section considered" Let me repeat my question here "Vu is the VERTICAL shear from analysis? Or we need to convert back the HORIZONTAL shear stress obtained from formula VQ/bI...

horizontal cold joint in one-way slab/joist construction?

In ACI 318-05, Chapter 17, Vnh is the nominal horizontal shear strentgh. Vu is the vertical shear from analysis? Or we need to convert back the shear stress obtained from formula VQ/bI multiply by bv x d .

horizontal cold joint in one-way slab/joist construction?

What is the allowable horizontal shear strength of reinforced concrete beam with cold joint?

horizontal cold joint in one-way slab/joist construction?

JAE For calcultaing Q we need the cross sectional area of either side of joint into the arm. What will be the arm? Is it from center of area on either side of joint into it's centroid to neutral axis. Also we assume neutral axis at geometric center of concrete beam with rebars?
