Why provide negative reinforcement in footings?

Anchor bolts??? Do the bolts have to be hooked to steel and what are the increased values for doing so? For example...1/2" bolts:: 2195 based on bond strength, 2105 based on steel strength.(Simpson) now if the bolt was hooked to bond beam steel then I assume that the design loads will be...

    wood I joist

what is the rationale for allowing 98% of the osb web to be cut out of wood I joist? they recommend cutting holes in the center of the span. How does this affect the resistance to maximum bending moment at the center? Would the unit act like a truss with 45 degree force lines thus aviding the...

    applying roof vents

I am in a 110 mph wind zone.48" x24" roof vents are cut into the 1/2 osb roof sheathing.Should the edges be blocked at unsupported edges? Inspector Jeff in Florida

wood beams with partial steel flitch plate

Sorry for the delayed answer. The 10K load was about 5' from the right bearing. Beam only supported on top surface by 2' of second flr hall. I thought that the steel would take the entire load and at the terminus dump it into the wood beam. Jeff

Shear walls desing at corners in wood w/ plywood sheathing

Use a drag strut (girder truss) across the front main wall over to the garage side wall. This will dump alot of the shear into the front wall and not the garage returns. then take 1/2 of the depth of the garage bump out from the house distance and calculate the lateral wind load on that area. Now...

wood beams with partial steel flitch plate

Thanks for the info. Doesn't a combination wood/steel beam usually neglect the wood as the 2 materials are so different in capacities? So I was thinking that the ends of the steel plate would apply a bending and shear load to the wood beam, which if I remember has a higher moment(PL/3 than...

Uplift Capacity of Sill Plate Anchor Bolts

sometimes plate bending stresses will dictate bolt spacing. And here in Fl. Engineers use anchor bolts for overturning at SWS ends...a no no. jeff
