    Aerospace Dash Numbers

Thank you for the reply Scott, I guess this is sort of significant part numbering question in that it applies to configuration identifications using dash numbers. What I'm asking is, is there any aerospace industry standard regarding assignment of dash numbers for configurations? For example...

    Aerospace Dash Numbers

Anyone aware of an aerospace industry standard regarding the use of dash numbers for system configurations? IIRC Rockwell, Boeing and LMS had something in their drawing standards that -6XX were flight configurations, -2XX were prototypes, -6XX were Structural test articles, etc. It was always...

    Desert Precautions

I'm reluctant to put anything other than a strainer on the suction, although maybe the tank can be designed with a sump and baffle arrangement to trap sediment. The kidney loop with sump suction should keep the tank clean. I agree the vent is the first line of defense against grit ingress. I'll...

    Desert Precautions

My first unit works! 400 hp with no problems except I spec'ed the wrong joystick. My bad! Now I am adapting to a mideast desert environment. There are two circuits, the primary is a closed loop system (3000psi/120gpm) and the secondary is open loop (various). Heatwise I'm fairly certain that I...

    Panel Replacement

Thanks, unfortunately the Red Lion product line does not contain 12" panel PCs. I've narrowed the search to marine panels, they seem to be the most rugged commonly available. I'm looking at the Vartech and Attro product lines. I was kind of hoping that one of the forum readers had experience...

    Panel Replacement

So far it has not been an ambient heat problem. The ambient heat is 80 degrees and the panel's reasonably cool. What happens is that the heat stikes the black bezel which heats up and honks up something behind it. The touchscreen is 80 degrees and it still displays correctly, it won't accept...

    Panel Replacement

I have a GE Fanuc system with an outdoor operator's station. Installed in the station is a GE Fanuc Quickview Panel. Being outdoors the panel is occasionally subject to direct sunlight; long story short - they stop working when exposed to the sun. I need a replacement panel that will hold up to...

    Oil Vapor Sensor

badservo - Good catch - I'll call them tomorrow Thanks!

    Oil Vapor Sensor

Thanks for the many answers. RoyDMatson - The membranes are a series of tubes with holes poked in them small enough to let O2 molecules out, but not the N2. Any oil clogs up the pores and significantly reduces efficiency. Short story - By the time there is a peressure difference the damage is...

    Oil Vapor Sensor

I was thinking some sort of thin film capacitance sensor, but I haven't been able to find one. There are a number of capacitance based level detectors, but by the time I have accumulated enough oil for these to measure, I'm screwed. I remember seeing a twisted pair water leak detector a while...

    Oil Vapor Sensor

Hmm, I'll look into that. The N2 moves at 750 scfm so I'm not sure if the vapor remains stationary for a sufficient time to absorb the alpha radiation and interrupt the charged flow. Operations just contaminated $125K of membrane filters because of a collapsed oil coalescing filter so a $250...

    Oil Vapor Sensor

I'm looking for a sensor that detects the presence of oil vapor, not necessarily a measurement of the amount present but that oil is present above a specified threshold. The application is in a 5000 psi Nitrogen stream. The oil contamination is 30Wt compressor oil. My fallback position is to...

    Cylinder position

Anything is possible. My particular application is 3000 psi with a 28" travel and is used to crimp and shear oilwell pipelines. Watching for the pressure dip on a gauge is how the operators determine closure now. The system is visually inspected (exercised) for correct operation before...

    Cylinder position

I too have a need to know when one of my eight cylinders has reached the end of their travel. This is required for the operator to begin the next step. I would use a pressure switch set near the supply pressure on the cylinder extend/retract lines. When the light is off (pressure low/switch...

    Current Loop Monitoring

How incredibly obvious! Why did I not think of that?! I'll check with the vendor tomorrow regarding the nature of the meter. Thank you!

    FREE Circuit Design Software

I have used this, it is actually as neat as it looks. It's also possible to send your diagram on to the manufacturer and they will build the manifold assy.

    Current Loop Monitoring

Thank you all for making me smarter! It appears there are three options to do this: 1. Use a low resistance resistor in series with circuit and measure voltage drop. 2. Wire SCE in series with circuit and measure current 3. Use a signal splitter. Each option has its pros and cons, I'll run...

    Current Loop Monitoring

Remember when your six year old first learned how to tell time and would go from clock to clock and enquire why one clock said 7:41, the one in the kitchen says 7:39 and the one in the library says 8:03? Not that operators are six year olds, but they work in absolutes in the real world. When...

    Current Loop Monitoring

I suspect that if I start with the same sensor, I have a better than average chance of making the readings line up. The current practice is to add another sensor; it drives the operators nuts and reduces their confidence in the electronic equipment. I like the idea of a gauge with a data output.

    Current Loop Monitoring

I want the gauge and the DAQ to always say the same thing. I want the DAQ to be able to die (power off) and the gauge still works. The former will occur if they use the same signal and tolerances. I suspect the latter will only occur on a vendor by vendor basis. I will explore with them next...
