    ASCE 7 canopy snow load

Hi all Does ASCE7-16 allow reduction of drifted snow on sloped canopies, As far as I know, the drifted snow load is the same for flat and sloped canopies. Regards

    Lumped Plasticity hinge stiffness

Hi all For lumped plasticity model of a column or a beam the plastic hinge stiffness is 6EI/L (assuming double curvature). My question is how to derive this equation? and what is the stiffness for a singe curvature (cantilever)? Thanks

    FEMA 273

Hi all In fema 273 and ASCE 41, the modelling parameters and acceptance criteria of concrete flexure members are given as rotations. I do not know what is meant by rotation. is it the rotation of the plastic hinge or the chord rotation of members (Drift/L).

    Beginner Question

Actually I will be modelling concrete, and I know models for concrete are available in ANSYS. but I will be using different stress strain relations for the sake of research.

    Beginner Question

Hi all I am planing to use ANSYS for my research. Before I begin I need to know whether it is possible in ANSYS to change the Script? In other words I need to create a new material with specific stress-strain relationship , is that possible in ANSYS? Thanks

loss of tension in post tensioned beam

Hi What are the symptoms of tension loss of post tensioned beams. I have several beams to be checked for tension loss. in one of them there is a horizontal crack in the web, is this one of the symptoms of tension loss. Thanks

    analysis of beams

It is clear that torsion is different from negative moment , what I meant is that the negative moment in the secondary beam caused by the torsion in the main beams , any way thank you all for your help.

    analysis of beams

I am using staad for the analysis and it is a single span beam , I thought of releasing torsion at the ends, but in reality the beams are cast together.

    analysis of beams

After analyzing a concrete roof slab , some of what appear as simply supported beams ( single span beam supported at ends by main beams ) the negative moments were much higher than the mid span moment ) , That happen because all connections between beams were assumed to be rigid , shall...

    Concrete beam expansion joint

I am designing foundations and concrete ground beam for a pre-fabricated steel structure ( single story 40m x120m), the beam is 0.6m high and should support a hollow block cement wall, 3m high , the upper 0.2m of the beam is above ground level my question is about the expansion joint , the...

    column starter bars

In a reinforced concrete buildings project, the contractor casted about 150 foundations with 6 ?14mm starter bars for the columns, at a later stage it was found that the reinforcement in some columns has to increased to 6 ?16mm, the first proposition was to add dowels by drilling and epoxy, then...

    reinforcement connected to earthing cable

Hello all In a reinforced concrete structure, is it ok to connect earthing cable to the foundation reinforcement, I think this will induce electrochemical corrosion; I looked through ACI222r and found nothing in regard. .

    High water table

I have parking area under construction, the water table is high, about 1 m deep , the compacting machines sinking about 25 cm when operated in the area , and the water is going to the surface ,, any advice,,

    Foundation reinforecment

house with spread footings, I wanted to use U shaped reinforcement for the footing, the contractor wanted to use straight reinforcement, would any one please let me know if there is any standard specification that require u shaped steel,, BS or ACI , just refer to the number of the spec.

    Minimum Distance between vertical curves

Hi All I have an Urban streets design of hilly area, the designer wanted to reduce the cost and followed the natural ground, with minimum cut and fill. As a result there are many vertical curves one after another. I couldn't find any Standard specification that determine the minimum distance...

    expansion joint

a new 44m long concrete building with expansion joint to be put vertically in the middle of the building , is it ok to make the joint in the walls , columns and slab, but keep the foundations connected

    roof truss

a roof truss with a span of 35 meters ,it will be supported on two concrete columns , the design was carried out assuming one support is pin and the other is roller ,but in the construction drawings 'the attached drawing' both ends are bolted down ,,is that ok , I have some concerns about this...
