    New Engine Break-In

Here is a trusted procedure. First rule DONT baby it, idle it for long periods or free rev it lots, second rule dont use synthetic oil, third rule disregard what any user manual says! thay are written for litigation and safety purposes and go directly against whats best for a new engine. I...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

During my discussions with a metalurgest he indicated chromolly steels such as 4130 would be fine for the pin/shaft, I have gone for 8620 with a deep case harden for good core strength and hard surface for the needles. I have looked at the Isky EZ Roll, they have oil pressure fed through...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

Hey all discussion is welcome, where i got to was considering 52100 bearing steel for both the rollers this is said to be great alloy with good durability and wear properties, i think its used with deep case hardening to about 60 Rockwell. For the tip roller pin something like 4340 through...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

smile :).... pinto or L series?? be careful with the geometry or you end up with a big inverse on one side of the cam lobe which makes it difficult to design and grind, I also considered a crowned roller for alignment, but for now sticking with the standard notched lash cap, we are looking at...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

I would go as far as to say every pushrod engine roller rocker in the world (usually V8) from probably hundreds of manufacturers use a steel on steel pin and roller for the valve stem roller so its a widely used and well proven concept but of course they wont share such details. Can the likes of...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

Thats more like the thing i was thinking but maybe the other way round, use a single 5mmm needle roller for the shaft and make a hardened roller. Anyone have thoughts? Should the roller be case or through hardened?

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

tmoose thank you for the input, the roller I am most concerned with has no bearing it runs directly on the shaft and its the material and hardness for this roller follower and shaft Im looking for help with. I have received help from SKF for the bigger roller and shaft which does have a needle...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

Yes, maybe i wasn't clear enough with my description, this follower has two rollers one is large runs against the cam in a constant spinning motion with a needle bearing inside this is no problem i have received plenty of help from bearing companies and we have a nice little open cage needle...

    metal compatibility roller rocker conversion

We are designing a rocker conversions for a SOHC race engine. The operation is via finger follower style rocker with 2 rollers under the cam and one on the tip for the valve stem. I need help to find the best material compatibility for the rollers and pins. The cam roller runs directly on a...

    Exhaust Manifold Primary Diameter Sizing

I like to back up my estimations with a few real world examples because its easy to get carried away with the "little bit is good more is better" trap Take into account the horspower targets and look at similar size engines known for punching well above their weight, in your case the best...

    header collectors

i dont know if im allowed to do this but look for something called pipemax its perfect for all those sorts of calculations, i have found it very useful, For my 2.7l 6 cyl bm race engine i use 1.5" Primary x 30" and 1 3/4" secondary x 15" to a 2.5" tailpipe and it makes exceptional power. I...

longer exhaust duration... why and when??

yes thats what im getting at, sure there are carburettor set-ups that are more like efi but in those cases is an equal duration better??? but most situations where longer exhaust durations seem to be used is when a carburettor is feeding into a single plenim such as your typical american V8

longer exhaust duration... why and when??

regarding the exaust not knowing what the intake is doing i was more thinking of the intake duration possibly needing to be reduced due to the charge having to navigate things like venturies, plenims and unequal length runners etc as apposed to fairly large open disign with longe equal runners...

longer exhaust duration... why and when??

Im referring to na applications, i can see where turbo or supercharging would have quite different requirements and could well require different durations any thoughts on carb v's efi?

longer exhaust duration... why and when??

Thats similar to my experiences with my 6cyl bmw race engine were the best results are always come from cams with equal durations or even slightly larger intake for a nice broad power band but as per my original post so many cam grinders insist on longer exhaust durations and im wondering what...

longer exhaust duration... why and when??

Why do many engine builders insist on longer exhaust duration for racing cams? what is the effect of power and torque doing this as apposed to cams of same duration? The practise seems to be mostly used in older 2V V8 engines but with todays aftermarket heads and exhausts i think the port and...

700hp 300ci pushrod V8 race engines how do they do it?

My point exactly.... if you do the sums it doesnt add up, I believe the hp claims are not too inflated one of the teams ran a 1/4 mile promo run last year and for a 1400Kg (3000lb) car that has 500lb rear & 1100lb front springs, rock hard circuit tyres and a 2.5 first gear they still did 10.8 @...

700hp 300ci pushrod V8 race engines how do they do it?

Its true thay have recently (couple of years ago) moved to e85 fuel but before that they were required to run 98oct PULP i think the power didnt change much at the time. The rev limit is the killer! As far as tricking it goes thats impossible they run a controll MoTec ecu and every race is...

700hp 300ci pushrod V8 race engines how do they do it?

There is a class of circuit racing here in aus that uses a conventional gm or ford derived v8 They have a few engine limits like 18 degree parralel valves 10:1 comp 7500rpm and pump fuel along with component weight limits for crank, pistons and rods to eliminate exotic materials like Ti. I...
