How to Size an Orifice Plate for Flow Restriction?

No existing orifice plate on the recirc line right now. It is a free disharge to atmosphere (into a tank). Concerning an orifice for back pressure...you are suggesting this from a pump perfomance standpoint correct?

How to Size an Orifice Plate for Flow Restriction?

There are a couple of existing valves on the line to the secondary process right now but they are not helpful in regards to what we are trying to do (i.e. open/close diaphram)... the addition of a ball valve instead of an orifice may not be a bad idea...Thanks again all.

How to Size an Orifice Plate for Flow Restriction?

Thanks for the feedback all. psmart...can I use the standard orifice eqn to find discharge [Q=CA SQRT (2gH)] in this application? If I do use the std eqn. my H in the eauation will become headloss NOT the "depth of water above the orifice". I haven't seen anything in the literature to support...

How to Size an Orifice Plate for Flow Restriction?

I am trying to use an orifice plate for flow restriction in a Soda Ash line and am having trouble working out the hydraulics. The system is set up as follows: Soda ash is being pumped through a pipe loop. So….a pump pulls the soda ash out of a tank, pumps it around the site through a PVC pipe...

    Gravity Thickener Installation Time

Hello Everyone- I am trying to estimate how long it will take to install gravity thickener equipment (full diameter rake arm & center support column) in a newly constructed 60 ft diameter concrete tank. Any suggestions on how to estimate this? And while I’m asking, do any of you know of a good...

    PVC Pipe, Encrustation Classification (PACP)

Thanks for the feedback Stevewag and Fodder. Can either of you speak to wether or not the "encrustation" classification (as defined in my original post)can apply to PVC pipe?

    PVC Pipe, Encrustation Classification (PACP)

I am reviewing some CCTV inspection data for a PVC pipe. The inspector has classified some of the deposits attached to the PVC pipe wall as "encrustations". According to the PACP manual the term “encrustation” refers to “deposits left by the evaporation of infiltrating groundwater containing...

    EIT Review Classes

Hello All- I live in the DC/MD/VA area and I am looking for an EIT/FE review class. As of yet I have been unsuccessful at finding one. I see there are several online review programs but I prefer a classroom setting. The classroom options seem to be slim to none. FYI: I tried out the FE review...

    ferrous sulfide

In addition what is it ferrous sulfide dissovlable in? The specs we have found are not soluble in Freon, hexane, Acetone, methylene chloride or nitric acid.

    ferrous sulfide

In the case where ferrous sulfide has been precipitated into a water system due to suspected sulfur corrosion of a pipe... What does ferrous sulfate look like (outside of being a black precipitate) and how does ferrous sulfide behave? What is the typical particle size range? Does anyone know if...

Where can I find a laboratory that can identify SBR (styrene Butadiene

Oh and as an FYI, the black specs smear when warmed and stick to surfaces....im trying to look up the characteristics of ferrous sulfide now....Has anyone actually seen this precipitate before? Does it smear?

Where can I find a laboratory that can identify SBR (styrene Butadiene

Bimr- wouldn't there have to be sulfur reducing organisms in the water in order for there to be ferrous sulfide present? How likely is this to be the case if the pipes contain dininfected drinking water? Please excuse my ignorance, but are there other ways for ferrous sulfide to get into piping...

Where can I find a laboratory that can identify SBR (styrene Butadiene

Thanks for the feedback! I will Look into Akron Rubber Labs... I agree in that there are many things that can be found in water and plumbing systems. We are hypothesizing SBR given the circumstantial evidence, hopefully we will be able to find a lab that can identify it whatever it is...

Where can I find handicap parking standards for VA?

I need to know what the spacing requirements are. The VDOT website has proved unhelpful thus far....

Where can I find a laboratory that can identify SBR (styrene Butadiene

I am dealing with an issue regarding black specs appearing in a drinking water system. I suspect they are of an elastomer material – primarily SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) but I have been unable to find a lab capable of confirming this. The specks are not soluble in Freon, hexane, Acetone...
