    Thread on fuel filler caps

Does anyone know the thread of the filler neck/fuel filler cap for thread on fuel filler caps? Not the "turn 90 degrees, click 3 times" type, but actual thread on caps

    Road Load Data

Does anyone know where I can get some general road load data? There was a study I saw a while back of a guy that put WFTs on his car and drove around for 10,000 miles or so and posted the data, but I can't seem to find it. I'm trying to design/spec bearings for use as our wheel bearings, and...

    Red Gasoline

There are no signs of degradation of the fuel line, and we haven't changed fuel type (Premium Unleaded the whole time), so nothing new there. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything adversely, we're just curious.

    Red Gasoline

I've tried to figure this out, but have come up with nothing so far, so maybe someone here can help me. The fuel in our vehicle is turning red, and we can't figure out why. We put new fresh gas in our gas tank, and it's fine, and if we sample the gas from the tank, it's normal. But if it...

    Crash Test Regulations

I've been going through the CFR to check the regulations that will apply to the vehicle my company is building, and a significant part of that is 571.208 (i.e. Occupant Crash Protection). I have been endlessly confused to the point of despair by Section 4.7 of this standard however, which...

Epoxy for CF to Titanium or Aluminum?

We do a lot of bonding of CF to Aluminum parts (both 6061 and 7075), and we use 3M's DP-460, which has very good shear strength properties. I'm not sure what the strength characteristics are for bonding to Ti, but if 460 wouldn't work, I'm sure 3M has something else that would work better...

    Brake Line Question

I'm getting set up to run brake lines for the prototype vehicle my company is building, but I have a few questions. We're taking a fairly standard approach and using hard line from the master cylinders out towards the wheels, and then using flex line from the body to the wheels. The issue I'm...

Rear View Mirrors (Yes, I know this is a bit bizarre)

Hello all I'm a vehicle engineer at a small company designing and building a lightweight vehicle, and in the interests of aerodynamics, we're interested in using rear view cameras instead of external mirrors. Unrelated to this, we are also in the market for a tow vehicle, and I was looking at...

    PAA Etch/Anodize and BR127 Primer

My company is looking to bond a number of aluminum parts onto carbon fiber parts we are producing, and we're looking for company in the new england area (we're located in Boston) that can do both the Phosphoric Acid Anodization and the BR127 Bond Primer. Anyone know of anyone that can do this...

    Fuel filler door/assembly

I'm trying to source parts for the fuel system of the vehicle we're building, and I'm having some trouble finding a source for the fuel filler neck/gas cap/door assembly. I found the goodyear fuel fill hose, which we could run between the gas cap and the fuel tank, but other than just buying a...

    Airbag-in-seatbelt

I'm a vehicle engineer at a startup company building a lightweight vehicle, and we would like to use airbag-in-seatbelt types of airbags similar to the type used in many small aircraft and the type that Aptera is allegedly installing in their vehicle. Does anyone know of any companies that make...

    EVAP System

We already have the oven and vacuum pump, so that end is covered...we were planning on doing the cook under a vacuum anyway...our composites expert spent the last 30 years building racing boats for the America's Cup, and this is how they did it, and he seems fairly confident...Plus, the fact...

    EVAP System

Brian- That was very helpful, thank you. Pat- I agree that there will be some off-gassing even after we cure, but we're using high-temp pre-preg, so I'd think that most of it is going to get cooked off, and its not like we have a super resin-rich part like we would with a wet layup. As a...

    EVAP System

Franz- I agree with you. Thus far, the pieces of the puzzle that apply to this particular vehicle (given that its going to have this carbureted engine for our proof-of-concept no matter what), are a cat (which wont work as well as it can, i know), the evap system, the fuel vapor recovery...

    EVAP System

Also, I seem to have gotten a little sidetracked. I think everyone here acknowledges the fact that the vehicle I'm working on will NOT pass an emissions test in it's current iteration. But we'd like to at least show a good faith effort on our part. So, can someone give me a list of all of the...

    EVAP System

I've talked to a few people at the EPA, and they said that they don't do emissions exemptions...given that our application would NEVER actually pass emissions, is there a chance of getting an exemption, or will it just have to be non-street legal for the moment? Also, do you have any contacts...

    EVAP System

Also, where is the SHED testing performed? Is it something we need to do ourselves, or do we just take the vehicle to a facility somewhere?

    EVAP System

For the SHED testing as being a problem with the composites, is that because the epoxy just tends to add to the total emissions? We're using pre-preg, so I would think that once we've post-cured the vehicle, all of the epoxy is hardened and thats it, but maybe I'm wrong. In terms of...

    EVAP System

Yeah, that I know, because with the FI engine, you can control the mixture based on the O2 sensor. The vehicle is NOT classified as a motorcycle, so it will need to adhere to standard passenger vehicle requirements. I've never heard of the SHED testing...what is that? Also, I realize the Evap...
