Believe it or not.....when I started in a new design position a few years ago, I had a Dell computer that would hang on simple sketches. After a night of searching forums, the culprit turned out to be Microsoft Intellipoint mouse drivers. I have used Logitech mice ever since then. Just my .02 $
My customer needs to have all his files in DWG and saved out to one DWG file. I batch convert all my Solidworks drawings to DWG and then macro a copy / paste to the master DWG file. Problem is that the hole chart becomes a block and assumes the properties of the 1st block inported into AutoCad...

I wasn't able to use an intellipoint mouse / driver with 07.
It was causing all sorts of graphic problems and causing the CPU to peg 100% on simple sketches.
Are you using a Microsoft mouse?
The only benefit so far I see is that I design in different areas of the machine at different times and then can add part numbers starting from one side of the tool to the other.
This helps to keeps balloons in a numerical order.

This seems to be a new feature of 2008.
Previous to this,(2007 and lower) one could assign a part name and type a description before the part was inserted into the assembly.

I had a very similar problem and it was related to a conflict with the mouse driver and video card.
I switched to a logitech mouse and have never looked back.
It took me a day of deep reading on the forums to find this one out.
Using SW 2006 Explorer at my old job, I was able to re-use assemblies and rename them in SW Explorer. This would also break all the external references.
Now using SW Explorer 2007, I copied an assembly ( an assembly I have stored in my Library) to a new folder and went to rename the files in it...
