Direct drive wind turbine rotor design

Hi We were working for awhile on developing a blade profile for a high speed direct driven wind generator. To make a long story short, we are wasting time and resources and getting nowhere. Blade design is specialized work and we don't have the knowledge and resources. Therefore: does...

    TiN vs. TiAlN coating

One more thing I forgot to ask: these are high temperature processes, and I may have a tempering problem at the end. What is the usual temperature and duration of the deposition? I may have to harden the rod since I'll lose hardess. Thanks.

    Thanks coatingengineer.

    TiN vs. TiAlN coating

I have an application, a cylindrical guiding rod that has a coil spring running along it and loading a device that slides on the rod. It is a long spring, and due to the compression/detent there is high wear on the rod; the spring/rod interface is lubricated, but it operates mostly on a boundary...

Frameless alternators for wind power generation

Thanks, but I'm looking for a company that makes direct driven alternators in the 3-40Kw range and sells them to integrators.

Frameless alternators for wind power generation

Here's a link to an overseas manufacturer: http://www.alxion.com/bin/e_eoliennes.html Does anybody know of a North American manufacturer of similar products? Thanks.

Frameless alternators for wind power generation

Hi. Is there a north american manufacturer of low power (3-100Kw) frameless tri phase frameless alternators that can be integrated into a direct drive wind turbine? I would appreciate any info and links on this matter. Thanks.

    Drive shaft calculations.

thanks unclesid I called the guys and they are willing to sell me the shaft, machined, not the material, and they won't disclose their source

    Drive shaft calculations.

unclesyd, Do you know a supplier for Aqualoy 22? I would like to buy the raw material myself and machine the shafts. Thanks.

    Drive shaft calculations.

Don't you think that would be verly expensive? I am also considering a construction steel shaft, powder coated for rust protection, just like the automotive wheel hubs are protected.

    Drive shaft calculations.

thanks unclesyd. Since the turbine works exposed to the elements, what would be the most common rust protection coating for the shaft that would resist rust for an extended period of time? Is chroming a solution, or should I look into using stainless steel for the shaft? If so, what would be...

    Drive shaft calculations.

thanks tbuelna there is no gearbox in this design as there is no pitch control. The rotor blades have a fixed pitch and the rotor shaft is driving the generator directly. The units with the compression rings attached rotors are technology demonstrators but in production another system will be...

    Drive shaft calculations.

Thanks cbrn. The rotor will turn at max 3-400rpm, however knowing the critical speeds and natural frequencies would be nice. I'm not an aerodynamicist, a static calculation I can do but more than that is beyond my reach, and the dynamic behaviour of the rotor and dynamic stresses in the shaft...

    Drive shaft calculations.

Here's the problem I'm facing: I'm working on a development project for a low power wind turbine. The concept has been defined and a couple prototypes were built but no calculations heve been made to size the transmission shaft, housing and bearings. The prototype has a straight shaft with the...

    low temperature O-ring seals

I would suggest graphite, as it handles well both high and low temperatures. I do believe your application is stationary, i.e. there is no rotation between the surfaces being sealed.

    Chrome re-plating

Thanks Ken, detailed as always. I won't do it myself of course, will find a plater that can handle it. Given the thin layer of Ni and Cr, I believe the surface finish of the base material is preserved. Therefore, I will have to fill any deep scratches and polish the part before the coating is...

    Chrome re-plating

Thanks guys. I have a concern though: would the chemical stripping, or reverse current react with the base material (brass) and incurr any dimensional changes? This is my major concern; and tipically what is the thickness of decorative/protective chrome plating? I assume it is not exceeding 10...

    Chrome re-plating

I have a few small parts whose thin chrome plating peeled of in some areas. The base metal is brass and I want to redo the coating. Before re-chroming the old coatoing has to go, but which is the best way to strip it down? As the base metal is soft, bead blasting would damage the surface. Any...
