    what's on the lightpost?

I was visiting a home in a new subdivision yesterday and on one of the lightpoles there was a device I could not identify. It appeared to have a small solar panel on one side of a nema rated looking sealed box with 4 rods (antennae?) coming out of it, 2 up, 2 down. I have no idea what this...

Non PV power into charge controller

How would a charge controller generally used to charge batteries with a solar panel input know or care whether the input voltage was being generated from solar power or by a different source? I'm told it can't /shouldn't be done, but I don't know why. As far as I know, the voltage out of a...

    surge protection

What would you guys suggest as the most reasonable way of protecting against the effects of a lightning strike and or residual transients to equipment? I've already suggested using a groundrod tied to the chassis and with minimal travel path from unit EG connection point to the rod. There are...

    batt charger batt type

Why would a 'smart' battery charger care what type (lead acid, gell, etc) of battery it is charging? Wouldn't the demand be dictated by voltage level reguardless of material?

    60Hz motor at 50Hz again....

    Thanks DPC...good info...

    60Hz motor at 50Hz again....

the motor FLA would be around 8A....wouldn't I need about a 2kva transformer? That's a monster relative to our equipment....

    60Hz motor at 50Hz again....

I know much has come up about this, but I haven't seen any answer to the question of, if I'm going to put a 60Hz motor into service with a 50Hz supply, in order to get the V/Hz ratio down by reducing the voltage...is there any 'voltage divider' way of doing it...in other words, without a VFD or...

    editing logo parameters

OH.....and on certain "ok" pushes, there may be a delay of up to a minute! This is ridiculous....I build an 8085 20 years ago that reacted faster than that no matter what you did!

    editing logo parameters

SIEMENS LOGO 12/24RC...0BA6....LOGO Soft Comfort V6.1.5.... The manual for the above is very unclear on navigation as far as editing an existing program on a LOGO. I have a timer I'd like to change the retentivity on at the LOGO. After several hours of working with it, I think I'm close...

    painfully loud motor

well, I wasn't there to witness anything, but I'm told a new pump with a lower flow rate fixed the noise problem. Thanks for all the input....

    Motor MCA

Is there any rule of thumb other than the above mentioned? Although it may err on the high side, I've added the motor fuse value to the highest branch circuit fuse and rounded up to nearest typical value when asked, which is not very often.

    painfully loud motor

The pump is pumping hyd fluid into a pressure vessel....what I'm told they've done is remove everything between the pump and vessel (valves, etc) and ran a hose directly to it. Everything is fine until it gets to some (not sure what) pressure....then the noise begins. Running the fluid with no...

    painfully loud motor

the time between the motor power being cut and actually stopping is too short to determine. Probably 1s or less. I don't actually have it in front of me, but I know the system.

    painfully loud motor

no, no VFD or softstart or anything, direct through an overload and contactor.

    painfully loud motor

Is there any electrical mechanism that I'm just not able to figure out that would cause a motor running under typical conditions to make an exceptionally loud noise under load? I'm fairly certain it's mechanical, but I'm being told it could be electrical and I just want to rule out anything...

current at 50Hz on modified 60Hz motor

ok, sorry for the confusion. My original question was about using a 60Hz motor with a new starting spring in the start cap circuit at 50Hz. I did not like the sound of that, and said we needed to get a motor designed to run at 50Hz....and we did. Obviously, we don't have 50Hz, so we tested...

    siemens logo upgrade

I knew there were a couple of other things I read about that I couldn't remember....thanks :) Yes, I upgraded the software..(logosoft ver. 6.1.5). I am able to program a 0BA6 via the PC, however, according to seimens, and my attempts, the 0BA6 will not talk to the old chips. Siemens told me...

current at 50Hz on modified 60Hz motor

ok, we got 50Hz motor....however, being in the US, they're testing at 60Hz and they say the current increases as pressure builds....I believe at the goal pressure (when it stopped appropriately per the system), the current reading was roughly 60% higher than FLA. (fla ~13, acutal ~23). I'm...

    siemens logo upgrade

Siemens upgraded their LOGO! smartrelay to version 0BA6 from 0BA5. There are only a couple of minor additions, however the little memory chip that allows quick and easy program upgrades is not compatible according to Seimens. They informed me however that the new LOGO should be able to read the...

current at 50Hz on modified 60Hz motor

furriners...had to run that one through a few times.. :) I think that's the plan....of course the task of testing it here in the US reverses my problem!
