This is located at a meter station, outside of the pigging limits. I am going to do it with a reducer. The client has agreed to this method. No custom transition piece required. Thank both of you for your invaluable input.

I'm doing a pipeline project. Only my second one. Been a piping designer in shipbuilding and various plants for over 30 years. I have a situation where I have 10" STD wall (.365") pipe going to an 8" SCH80 wall (.500") pipe. I am told I need a transition piece. I just figured this would be a...
Dcasto, The pipe is NOT tested by the pipe manufacturer to a level that meets B31.3. Nor is it required unless you request and pay for it to be done. It must be tested in accordance with B31.3 prior to installing in the field. In this case it's a 10 minute pressure test. The pipe manufacturer...
Not flying blind MF... as you can see, opinions differ across the board on this subject. The same goes with the engineers I have spoken to around here.... even if this was a hypothetical situation, the answers would not be the same from every engineer you asked. Some say that pressure testing is...
Yes Steve. I just found that the A312 spec mandates a 30 second pressure test on all piping at the factory. However, the pipe segment would require a 10 minute pressure test to meet B31.3. That can done at the mill or on site, obviously. I think I have my answer. I think. Unless someone comes on...
Now I'm lost also. I just want to know if the CODE requires this 10 foot section of new piping to be pressure tested prior to welding it into the system. I don't care about good engineering practice, client requests, etc.... that is a totally different issue. Does the CODE require it? Or not...
I know it "can" be tested. I am asking if it is "required" to be hydroed or pneumatically tested PRIOR to welding it into the system. It's just a straight 10' long piece of stainless, no fittings. It will be buttwelded into a system that cannot be pressure tested. So, it will have 2 closure...
Thanks BigInch.... what if there are no fittings welded to it... just a straight run of pipe. Does it still require testing prior to welding it into the system?
So I understand the application of Golden Welds. Let's say I am replacing a 10' long damaged segment of 3" ips piping in a 600 psi Liquefied Natural Gas system. There is no feasible way to pressure test the 2 buttwelds required to perform this task. Am I required to separately pressure test the...
Can someone please review that attached sketch and tell me if I am interpreting section 5.3.1 of STS-1 concerning strake pitch correctly?
Thank you,

Zapster, I think we got it. The OCV 3330 Altitude Control Valve may be perfect for what we need. It is all done hydraulically. No electric, no pneumatics, from what I can tell. Time to make some calls I guess. Thanks!!
I'll refer back to my original post. Pneumatically. We need some kind of pneumatic controller (using head pressure)between the valve and the tank, that will monitor the drop in pressure when the tank begins to empty then actuate the Cla-Val. Once it has emptied about 2" or so, the valve will...
We do not want a float valve. That is what we are replacing. The existing float valve inside the tank is corroded beyond recognition. We are now going to do this from outside the tank in the fill line.
Cla-Val is where we are looking at the moment for a valve. My problem is figuring out the pneumatic portion of the system. How to control the Cla-Val without electronics. The part of the puzzle that is missing is what goes between the tank and the Cla-Val to provide automatic fill capability...
I have a 100,000 gallon water tank with a 6" fill line. We are modifying the system to provide automated tank fill capability. We need to do this without electronics if at all possible. The new fill valve will need to open after 1000 gallons of water has been pumped out of the tank, and close...
I have a low pressure (about 25 psi, 120 deg F) cooling water system that my client wants to have corrosion coupons installed in. I need to have a retractable system that will allow the system to remain online while changing coupons. Can somebody tell me where I may find something like this...
