Cohesion c vs c' from Triaxial CU with pore pressure

F-D - all speciments were taken to 15% strain, which defines failure. i.e., there was no peak stress at lower strain. We did indeed compute phi and c based upon alpha and a from the stress path (phi=arcsin(tan(alpha)), c=a/cos(alpha)) but the pore pressure shift seem to make the lower two...

Cohesion c vs c' from Triaxial CU with pore pressure

I'm not sure what you are looking at, but the plots are 1:1 vertical to horizontal on my screen. They are single stage tests. I didn't get to assign the tests, I was asked to review the result, so I don't know why the engineer chose the high normal stress (the samples were taken at 15' deep)...

    SPT >50 in CLAYEY SOIL

The N-values can be exaggerated by the organic material in the clay soil if it is fibrous or woody in nature. Otherwise, I agree with fattdad that decomposed/highly weathered mudstone or shale could test as a clay and have very high N-values. Doug Tate southeast USA

Cohesion c vs c' from Triaxial CU with pore pressure

Hello, When i plot my total stress Mohr's circles for an overconsilidated fat clay (LL=81, PI=58) I get a decent looking diagram with c=3.21 psi and phi = 8.2°. However, when I plot the effective stress Mohr's circles and plot the c'-phi' line tangent to the circles I get c'=10.28 psi and phi'...

Help how to calculate response spectrum (Ss and S1 ) from PGA

Ss & S1 are based upon the PGA for a 2% in 50 year (2475 year return) event and 5% damping. Check this document "UFC 3-310-01 Structural loads.pdf" for a published Ss and S1, it has many cities where US bases are throughout the world.

    anthill material for runway improvement

I suppose that anthill material is primarily soil that has been transported by ants? I would recommend using it subject to normal materials specifications (if fine grained; liquid limit < 40, PI< 35, organic content < 5%, and if coarse grained; resonably well graded). Is there some sort of...

    Dynamic Probing

Dynamic probing (DP) is a Europeian standard EN ISO 22476-2 for soil testing there are 4 differeent methods. The light method is similar to the DCP familiar to in the USA - it delivers about the same energy per blow but it is driven differently. The test consists of a 10kg weight dropped 0.50...
