To pwrengrds.
I was pointing to the generator nuetral (in gereral). The Phase voltage & current (RMS) keeps on changing every cycle, so in the field you never get zero, because there is always residual flow thru system neutral. If you get zero, it means you have a bad meter/or not as sensitive...
To pwregrds-
You are correct as for voltage unbalance between phases travel thru generator Neutral, but you never-ever get zero volts on the neutral because the load keeps changing every cycle- zero is only on textbooks.

If you are close to Chicago-Gary, Indiana area, I can swing by for a cup of coffee and help idetify the problem-cause.
On utility side (transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution systems) or on facility-plant side, no matter how complicated the case is, it will get resolved...

I was looking at my crystal ball when I said that. Of course you have to know what you are looking for, and eliminate non-related issues. You will identify the source.
Good Luck with your investigation.

I would'nt recommend that, just solve the stray voltage issue and move on. These are common issues on electrical systems, you just have to spend time and resolve it.

I recommend that you set power quality analyzer to determine the cause. And, check your facility- grounding system. If there is arcing involved or any transient issues, etc. it will show up on your voltage waveforms 100%. Once you have data to establish the facts, you will be able to git rid of...
Good point Timesabroom.
Next time check and make sure the clamp-on CT, or flex CT (whichever you are utilizing) is plugged in properly all the way, go back open up the program on your power monitoring/analyzer equipment (under CT ratio setup), and make sure CT ratio are all identical on all...
To jghrist:
Strongly disagree with 1st paragraph "the voltage has very little energy associated with it.....". The potential, 60 volts can kill a person if/when condition is right as we say in power quality. This is a "stray voltage case" and ZAZM is looking for help-solution.
As you...
OpenDelta on utility transformer means: 2 pot bank (instead of 3 pot) setup, to povide 3-phase on secondary side. So, there are no 3-phase cut outs (CO's).
Only proper way to read-measure RMS voltage on open delta is to take phase-to-phase voltage readings (AB-BC-CA). No other way my friend...
To rockman7892-
It is possible that the panel serving the VFDs is experiencing momentary voltage sag (within 2-3cycles let's say), that would cause a havoc, and the way the VFD display/parameters are setup they will not necessary indicate the actual cause of problem.
You will hunt it down...
I wanted to appreciate everyone for the comments.
First inspection on bonding jumper way in the back of the 480Vswitchgear, with safety gloves pulled on system neutral and all connections looked tight at first glance. Checking the voltage increase to 529volts and decreasing to 250-350volts I...
JED057- please elaborate more on sequence of events leading to damage, attach pictures. etc. and explain in detail what was the damage i.e. mechanical-bearing failure, or motor winding short-failure. Has the motor been checked for forensics?

I investigate power quality cases for electric utility in mid-west, and resolved many different cases (RFI, stray voltage, or power line issues). My favorite line-always start from the ground up.
Based on information provided (more needed) it is believed that the tingle is due to...
Found the bonding jumper loose on 480V Mains, connecting system neutral to ground bus, placed jumper across all PVCs and RFI is gone.

Appreciate all the comments.
I just learned a few minutes ago that when a portable generator was brought in to power the 480V chiller disconnect (from 3-phase delta generator) the RFI was completly eliminated-gone(with 480V service & equipment ground disconnected from 480V main panel)...
Thanks rasevskii.
Keep in mind that equipment manufacturere had implemented 10 different line item in order to suppress the RFI, and none worked. So, I have to bring back to code as required.

Pictures may not be that great but someone has installed 6" inch piece of PVCs on (2) incoming conduit piping from 480V mains (right before isolation xfmr against the wall), on (2) departing conduits to the chiller and right before the flex conduit (top entry to the chiller enclosure). Plan was...
Point well taken. But I assure you with good degree of certainty that all voltage probes were tightly grabbing the lugs on all 3-phase (straight delta connection). Furthermore, the first 15-20 minutes of recording the monitor was collecting data with no voltage disturbance. As soon as load...
Thanks Skogsgurra.
Chiller is equipped water cooled SCRs. It is also equipped with harmonic filter package added (inductor coil & capacitor) . I will call to verify 100%.
