We are reverse engineering a steel adjustment washer and lab analysis determined the original to conform to AISI 4340 per ASTM A29-99. Hardness 53HRC. A rough turned bar was heat treated prior to finish machining. The washer was stress relieved at 374 degrees F. after parting off. After finish...
Many factors can effect burning. What size is your wheel and RPM? Is your coolant under pressure or flood. Is the speed of the dresser the same? Try speeding it up slightly. What kind of diamond are you using? A sharp single point will cut the grains instead of breaking them out which is...
We are having difficulty finding replacement parts for Dornier 328 landing gear, especially Sarma PTFE lined bushings and bearings. We have found a few parts but most have been no quoted. Does anyone know a supplier or contact for factory support?
I have a French made aircraft pin that our metalurgist determined to be close in composition to E 9310. It is 42 HRC with a suface hardness of 62 HRC .020 to .025 deep on one diameter. I have not been able to find a supplier of this matrial though there are many specs. I would certainly...
I have been advised EDM machining is sometimes not allowed in aircraft parts. Can anyone tell me why? we are looking to modify a small servo piston 1/4" Dia. with a very small internal hole 012 Dia. and the part is 57HRC.Needless to say, that makes it very hard to drill and ream.
I consistently run into dimensioning problems on parts required to have Cad Plating per QQ-P-416 on close tolerance
diameters.(.0005 inch or less)My question is: How can you allow a tolerance for plating without effectivly eliminating most of the tolerance for machining? For Example, Class 3...
Shims as you describe are easily and economicly made from 300 series stainless steel shim stock. It can be purchased from most good industrial supplies in rolls to 45 HRC and is not brittle. To fabricate, face a piece of aluminum bar on a lathe and using double back tape press the shim stock to...
Does electoless nickle in hydraulic cylinder bores have the lubticity of hard chrome. I would appreciate information concerning the application of it using both static and dynamic seals. Are there any negative factors and what thickness can it be plated without losing dimensional accuracy.
Is you tolerance .625 +.0007 or .625+-.00035. If it is +.0007 you should be able to hold it with a bushing and possibly without one. .624 Dia. reamers are readily available and may put you in your tolerance zone.
Another possibility is having a reamer ground to suit. It would certainly be more...
a solution of copper sulphate will turn bare steel a brownish coler. It is a good test to see if chrome plating has been ground thru to base metal. It will not determine if the coating is chrome or something else.
The tolerance for the manufacture of most types reamers are not as close as the tolerance you wish to hold. For example, according to ANSI B94.2-1977 a .625 chucking reamers outside diameter is +.0001 to +.0005.
My experience has been to allow .001 for reaming holes unless extra care is provided...
Does anyone know a USA supplier for this material? If not,
An overseas supplier would be helpful. 200mm. Diameter
x Approximatley 600mm length bar is needed.
