Over Molded Inserts - Coolant Manifold

Thanks Edstainless. Check this out, I just found a solenoid valve that uses FNPT fittings with the stainless collar like you mentioned. https://www.burkert.com/en/Media/plm/DTS/DS/DS6606-Standard-EU-EN.pdf?id=DTS0000000000000001000011072ENK

Over Molded Inserts - Coolant Manifold

@ FACS and EdStainless, Thanks for the continued support. Here are some images of the collar insert concept. Please let me know if this is the intent. https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=138d6236-a254-4d7d-9430-230cdb9c8d1d&file=COLLAR_INSERT_1a.JPG

Over Molded Inserts - Coolant Manifold

I would definitely be willing to try it. I will draw up a concept and share it to make sure I'm understanding correctly

Over Molded Inserts - Coolant Manifold

Hi all, Thanks very much for all the replies. Nylon would be my first choice, however the PVDF material is 1 of 2 compatible thermoplastics listed as approved for this specific application. I would attempt to mold the female NPT threads, but since we are threading in a metal MNPT sensor, I am...

Over Molded Inserts - Coolant Manifold

Hi all, I apologize in advance if this is not the correct thread category. I have an application for a coolant manifold (50/50 ethylene glycol/DI water) that will experience max temp of around 70C and max pressure around 14psi and am in need to create this out of a thermoplastic material. To...

Ansys Solver Crashes After Saving Project

Hi Guys, I cannot seem to find the solution to my issue when performing basic searches... When using ANSYS Workbench Version 14.0 for a Static Structural problem, the solver crashes if the project has been saved to my computer. I have absolutely no issues with the solver if the project has not...

ANSYS not matching Hand Calculations - simple structure

Problem solved! I had my centroid wrong..... whoops. What a day. Thanks again for everyone's help.

ANSYS not matching Hand Calculations - simple structure

Thanks for all of the fast replies! Yes, the loads are symmetric, so I have halved them, which results in the 38kip per side. The hand calculation was a simple bending stress = Mc/I. My moment is created by the 38kip load at a 33" distance. The I is 80.8 in^4 for the 9x3x1/2" rectangular tube...

ANSYS not matching Hand Calculations - simple structure

Sorry, I should have explained better. Only half of the actual structure is modeled - I simplified the ANSYS model for quicker results, that is the reason for the frictionless support on the ends of the rectangular tubes - from what I understand, this is how you treat something symmetrical...

ANSYS not matching Hand Calculations - simple structure

All, I am having a hard time believing the ANSYS results that I am getting for a simple structure. Long story short, I am calculating around 11ksi bending stress for the attached structure, but when I run the ANSYS model with the same load, I am seeing stress levels that are almost double...

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

Hi Strainstress, thank you for the feedback. I have not manufactured anything as of yet - I did however have the updated/curved gusset design reviewed with positive feedback and am going to move forward with this design. I think overall that the chief was wanting me to exercise some due...

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

Sorry about all of the issues with attachments... here are some additional images that show the results. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=1dd30b64-534e-4cb3-b186-cd00a8dc9e7a&file=updated.jpg...

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

All, Here are some images of the updated design that utilizes curved gussets. I was not succesful connecting the weld beads together in NX, and this is where the stress concentrations showed up. In reality however, this will not be the case and I am thinking that the concentration will be...

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I ended up having success with an odd curvature shaped gusset and changing the 4x4 square members to 6x2 rectangular members with a thinner wall section. I will post some pictures once I clean up my weld models and re-run the analysis.

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

I think he is just looking to minimize the stress concentration area... I have tried more iterations throughout today and have still not had any luck. I also tried adding doublers without success... I may try to complete something with a curved gusset next. Thanks again for the help.

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

I ran another iteration of moving the gussets in line with the square tubing wall section as suggested, but still am not having any luck. Any other suggestions? I am going to increase my gusset plate thickness and weld sizes next to see what happens. Thanks...

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

Thanks very much for the replies, they are very helpful! This is not a fatigue load case, only static. I will try as you suggested inline and see how that iteration turns out. Also rb, it is localized, but I am still being asked to minimize the stress concentration area before the chief...

Simple Lift Fixture - Need Advice to Relieve Stress Concentration

Also, specifically I am speaking about the lower gusset to the vertical member. Here's another image to show the area zoomed in. I have exausted efforts in changing the gusset geometry, weld termination, etc.... Let me know your thoughts...
