Shear Stud pattern for composite decks

Well, I figured out I have been thinking about this incorrectly; I don't need shear studs on the joists, I need them on the collectors that are supporting the joists. I apologize for the confusion.

Shear Stud pattern for composite decks

@KootK: they are open web joists. I care about transfer of diaphragm shear. Yeah the extra studs make no sense to me either. They basically would only serve as extra 'hold' between decking and concrete.

Shear Stud pattern for composite decks

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get a gut feel for amount of shear studs (stud pattern) etc cause I have never had to design them. Situation is: 3.5" overall thickness composite decking with light weight concrete; joist are spaced every 4ft. The goal is to get the shear into the joists to transfer...

Column bearing pad/footing separate from slab?

@XR250: Yeah I know good point, the columns have significantly more load so I would expect some movement but don't want that movement to crack the slab. If there is a load bearing wall on the slab I put a thickened strip with over-ex under to mitigate movement but I see your point. I could just...

Column bearing pad/footing separate from slab?

@XR250: this house has pretty expansive soils or I would have, I should have mentioned that. Thank you! @Jdub Engineer: thats a great idea thank you! @JoshPlumSE: yeah good call thank you!

Column bearing pad/footing separate from slab?

Hey guys just wanted some different opinions and thoughts about a detail I use. The scenario is this: a house with HSS columns in the wall that need larger bearing pads. The finished floor is a slab on grade. Typically you want to keep the bearing pads separate from the slab due to...

Risa 3D to Floor; diaphragm and seismic loads

@jayrod12 the only reason I'm avoiding starting in Floor is because its kind of a complicated structure and I already have it drawn in Risa 3D and was hoping to avoid a re-draw in an unfamiliar software. @dylansdad from what I've researched Floor can definitely generate lateral loads using its...

Risa 3D to Floor; diaphragm and seismic loads

@jayrod12 yes I spoke to Risa about model transfer, they specifically said you cannot go from Risa 3D to Risa Floor, only from Floor to 3D. But, good point, I didn't ask them about drawing a diaphragm in Floor and bringing it into 3D, I will reach out to them thank you. They also said I could...

Risa 3D to Floor; diaphragm and seismic loads

Good afternoon, new to posting so hope I do this correctly! I have a building modeled in Risa 3D and am wanting to use Risa Floor to generate my seismic loads. I know I can't just import my Risa 3D model to Risa Floor, but is there a way to draw up the floor plans in Risa Floor with...

Risa3D to Risa Floor generated loads

Good afternoon, new to posting so hope I do this correctly! I have a building modeled in Risa 3D and am wanting to use Risa Floor to generate my seismic and wind loads. I know I can't just import my Risa 3D model to Risa Floor, but is there a way to draw up the floor plans in Risa Floor with...
