Hi all,
I am reverse engineering a suspension system, but I am finding some issues during the simulations, and I think it's because of the way I have measured the hardpoints originally. I have scanned the arms with the car lifted which means the suspension model represents the fully extended...
After investigating a bit, I think I found what I was looking for.
I had to change the "source" from "requests" to "result sets". Still can't find a way to make a request of such information. But I think this gives me what I was after.
Hi everyone,
I want to know what are the forces at different joints of my suspension system. Check how design changes affect these forces etc.
However, I can't find any parameter that looks like that in my postprocessor. I'm sure it's fairly easy, but I just can't find how to do it.
Any...
Hello,
I have been working with Catia for +10 years with heavy use of surface modelling.
I am trying to set up a personal business and I'm trying to find an affordable alternative.
I've looked into SolidWorks and it's OK but when modelling surfaces it basically works in the exact same way as...
Thank you guys for your answers,
As a general message what I get from your replies is "don't try to outsmart the OEM, they know what they are doing". And, having worked for several OEM's in the past I do agree with you.
However, despite not being a show car, the point here is trying to get an...
Thanks Greg,
Could you explain why you don't like the concept of machined arms?
And what alternative do you think is best suited then for a DIY project? Welded steel tubes, maybe?
Thanks
Hello everyone,
I have recently started a project to redesign the suspension elements of an existing road car and I need some advice from people more experienced in suspension parts.
The goal of the project is not to re-design the whole suspension scheme and geometry, but only the individual...
Hi Drawoh,
Thanks for your reply. That's the way we are usually asked to use the datums in my company. I agree it seems odd, but it does follow the general rule of constraining 3,2,1 dof.
Regarding the use of straightness or parallelism it's not possible unfortunately, as the edges are not...
Hi all,
I have this rectangular part which I want to tightly control both edges profiles, but I want to give my supplier some freedome to produce longer or shorter parts (as long as the edge itself looks good).
It's almost like we want to create two different areas for each edge. One large...
Hi Brian,
My idea is to design a track-oriented double wishbone suspension for an existing car shell, for a restomod project.
But, as I said, being an engineer and working for a car manufacturer already, I can see some kind of career path possibilities here. So I would like to learn as much as...
Hi Cibachrome,
You've just nailed. But that's precisely my problem, theoretical books don't help much when you're trying to set up real-world goals, or making real-world compromises.
Because of my experience as an interior trim engineer, I can easily understand what I need to deliver to...
Hi all,
Thank you for all your answers, some of them are really interesting.
Regarding the FAQ, I didn't know there was a specific FAQ for this forum, but I've taken a look, and it looks really interesting. I will read it more in depth.
Regarding my initial question, some people recommended...
Hi all,
I am a mechanical engineering currently working on Interior Trim parts for a living.
However I've always wanted to learn about vehicle dynamics and suspension design with the idea of making my own kit car (or at least try to do so). So I've read a few books about the topic (the famous...
