HTURKAK, yes it is a 13 storey building with basement. I just attached the soil report below.
My 105kpa was total axial load divided by area.

I have a building with a total load to the foundation soil as 105kN/m2. If I decide to excavate 4m deep soil and I remove 72kN/m2 of soil. Then I replace the weight of soil removed with some part of the building. It means I’m left with about 33kN/m2 acting on the soil at 4m.
So since the soil...
Good day guys, i modelled a simple 6m by 6m structures on etabs 20. i noticed that when i tick the include automatic rigid zone over column both on columns and beams, i get warnings that two floors are too close together.
but when i remove that rigid zone option i do not have that warning, when...
@WARose let me try to explain.
if we have a load of 1000kN coming from the super-structure and the base area of 10m x 10m
it means the total pressure on the soil is 1000kN/100m2 that is 10kN/m2 so it means the load coming on the raft is 10kN/m2. that was what I meant by the net upward pressure
Good day, I am trying to model this type of raft slab and stiffened beam on staad pro.
My question goes thus
from my few years of experience on raft foundation, the slab is designed with the net upward pressure. so now I have a beam and slab. does it mean some of my net pressure would be...
@joshplumse so is it advisable for me to model my G+2 building with a cracked section?
Even when I’m using only dead and live loads (gravity load only)
good day fellow engineers, I have a little doubt I want you guys to help me clear.
why did Eurocode use uncracked section instead of cracked section? while Indian, American and Australian codes are using cracked section
I noticed EC2 did not talk about two-way slab like the way its predecessor BS8110 made a coefficient for the analysis of two-way slab. I also noticed EC2 was more concerned about simply supported one-way slab and continuous slab
Good day, I started learning Etabs lately and I noticed most tutors on youtube saying that we should use shell thin for the solid slab. Now my question is why does shell thin produce lower moment than that of the membrane ( which matches that with the manual calculation)
